Smile The CookingForums Cake Contest!

I thought it'd be fun to run a contest here, so I'm happy to announce:

The CookingForums Cake Contest!

How to Enter:

Simply design and make a cake with CookingForums.net being the theme. You may wish to include our name/domain, use our forum's colours, or perhaps make it somehow look like the website itself.

Once your cake has been made, simply take a photo of it and post it to this thread.

Be creative! I will personally be judging the winner, who will receive their very own CookingForums.net apron!

Creativity, difficulty, presentation, and deliciousness-looking (I only wish I could taste them through the Internet!) will all be taken into consideration.

Deadline:

The deadline is December 10th, 2009, so be sure to have your cake image posted here before then.

Rules:

  • Each member may submit up to 2 cakes, although only one prize will be sent out.
  • We will not be accepting cakes bought from Dairy Queen or bakeries, they must be made by you!
  • The cake must be an actual cake; cupcakes, pies, etc. will not be eligible for this contest.

The Prize:

The winner will receive their very own CookingForums.net apron. It's a great apron that is both functional and will leave you the envy of all your friends (haha).

Here's our very own member Liketobake modeling the apron for you:

Here's a larger view of the apron:

Spice up conversations in the kitchen or around the BBQ with this tasty-looking apron (made of high-quality cotton twill, it's rugged and wears great too). Ideal for cooking, baking, grilling or bartending, it's perfect for foodies of all sizes. Simply slip the apron over your head and pull the waist-level drawstring to tighten it around your neck and waist. Two generous pockets hold utensils and more.
  • 31" long & 29" wide
  • 100% heavy cotton twill
  • Machine washable
Good Luck Everyone!

I'd have better luck trying to get a plate of grilled chicken wings to theme the forum (lol), but I can't wait to see the creativity of the cakes. I know what I would do if I were a baker...

Just a little reminder about the contest..

I think I may make my cake today. I know what I am going for for the cake, but I am still a bit unsure of what will make an appearance on the top of my cake..

I'm no cake decorating expert, I am as unskilled as they come when it comes to icing and decorating a cake. I normally shy away from all icings and frosting for this reason, as well as I don't like the taste of most icings/frosting. However I found this contest intriguing so I gave decorating a go.

I decided to make a chocolate beet cake. I choose this cake because the dark red color of the beets is similar to the dark red forum color.

I iced the cake with this

For decoration I used mini semi-sweet chocolate chips for the forum name, and one giant bitter sweet chocolate chip for the dot in .com.

Here is my cake.

Note this is one of my dad's favorite cakes, and he couldn't resist a piece before it was iced, and decorated.

Looks like a Red Velet Cake. Didn't know that Duncan Hines made cream cheese.

The interesting thing about the icing is that the ingredients doesn't even list cream cheese, there is milk in it though. Normally I don't like artificial stuff like that but I thought I would give it a try since I wasn't in the mood to make icing.
