    As we all know, Indian food is spicy and tangy - the more the better! This thread is for all those who are interested in spicy food and Indian food recipes. So chop down those tomatoes and bring out those chillies! Here is just one of these recipes:

    Recipe Aunt Prepares: Onion Dry. Preparation Time: 15 Minutes

    This recipe is basically something that you can try when you are too bored of having the dal as a gravy dish, and are too tired to prepare some vegetable with gravy dish. Onion in itself is has several benefits for the health of a person, and adding these ingredients make it a crunicher option tod al and other gravies.

    Here is the Onion Dry Recipe:

    Ingredients:

    250 Grams Onions
    1 small tomato
    A pinch of cumin seeds
    1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    2 teaspoons coriander powder
    1 teaspoon red chilli powder
    1 whole green chilli.

    Pour four teapsoons of oil in an open pan and let it simmer for a while. When the oil is heated right, put the cumin seeds into the oil. Wait for the seeds to crackle, and then put the onions into the mixture. Let the onions fry for a while. Stir the mixture till the onions get the pinkish brown texture. Then, add the salt and stir for a while. Once that aroma of fried onions waft, add the turmeric powder, the coriander powder, the red chilli powder and the green chili. Remember to dice the chilli. Fry the mixture for a while and then add the diced tomato. Cover the pan with a dish for two minutes. The dish is ready.

    Recipe Aunt Prepares: Cabbage Masala. Estimated Time: 30 Minutes

    Speak about cabbage and people will run away from the room. However, cabbage is a green leafy vegetable that is quite rich in the necessary nutrients. Therefore, it becomes necesssary to make cabbage dishes that are tasty and look interesting. Here is one such recipe, the cabbage masala.

    Cabbage Masala Ingredients:

    400 grams cabbage
    2 medium potatoes
    2 medium onions
    1 big tomato
    3 green chillies
    1 strip of bay leaf
    Coriander leaves (chopped) for garnishing
    1/4 spoon turmeric powder
    1/4 spoon cumin seeds powder
    1 and a 1/2 sppon coriander powder
    1/2 spoon red chilli powder.
    How to Prepare Cabbage Masala:

    Dice the cabbage into small pieces. Dice the potatoes into small pieces and chop the onions and tomatoesinto small pieces.Pour the oil in a open pan and let it heat for a while. Put the cumin seeds and wait for them to crackle. Once they crackle, put in the onions and wait for the onions to get a pinkish brown texture. Put the cabbage into the pan and wait for a while. Add the spices and salt and stir for a while. Once you get the aroma of the spices, add half cup of water and cover the pan for at least 10 minutes.

    Open the lid and stir for a while, and then put the potatoes into the mixture, stir it well and add the diced tomatoe and do not stir. If the water is dried up, put a little of water for the potatoes and then cover it for five or seven minutes. Open the pan after five to ten minutes and check if the potatoes are boiled well. Sprinkle the chopped coriander powder and cover. The coriander taste will integrate into the dish.

      Recipe Aunt Prepares: Pohe. Estimated Time: 15 Minutes

      India cuisine is a vibrant mix of sweet, spicy and simply bland food. This is one country where you will see different breakfast, lunch and dinner items as you travel through the length and breadth of India. One such dish that is typical of the Maharashtrian belt but is prepared in almost every corner of India in different ways is ‘Poha’. ‘Poha’ is basically beaten rice and works as a nice breakfast or a snack dish. It is one of those nutritious and tasty dishes and a favorite with mothers – after all the child is having nothing else but rice! Here is the Poha Recipe:

      Pohe Ingredients:

      125 gms Pohe (beaten rice)
      1 medium potato
      1 medium onion
      2 green chillies
      1/2 teaspoon lentils
      1/4 teaspoon mustard
      1/4 gram
      10 to 12 pieces of bay leaf
      1/4 spoon turmeric
      1/4 spoon salt
      4 teaspoons oil
      10 to 12 peanuts
      How to Prepare Pohe Recipe:

      Peel the boiled potatoes and dice them into small cubes. If you are in a hurry, peel the potatoes and cut them in small pieces, and then boil them with a pinch of salt and keep aside.

      Take a thick bottomed vessel and pour the oil in it. When the oil heats up, add the mustard and bayleaves. When the crackling begins, add the peanuts and green chillies. Fry for a while, until it takes a brownish color and then add the onion. When the onion takes the pinkish color, add the poha and the salt. Let the mixture stay for a while and then saute it. Stir the mixture until done and the poha is ready.
