• Turducken?

image_2276.jpg image_2276.jpg So, these aren't exactly 'new' to the show. I've heard about these weird creations for a few years now, where one stuffs a turkey with a chicken and a duck, thus forming the legendary trinity of Turducken. My question is- has anyone had this before? I highly doubt I'd need that much bird in my life, but I've always been rather curious about the taste- wouldn't the grease of the duck and the chicken mix into the turkey meat?

For those who haven't heard of it, here's a picture of what I'm talking about!

The duck IS fattening, but the majority of that fat comes from the skin on the bird, which is why when you're roasting a whole duck, you must first, prick the skin all around with a fork & put the bird onto a high rack, so that the grease that drips from it goes to the bottom of the pan and the duck is not swimming in it. And trust me, a lot of grease comes from it!!

In the case of the turducken, I would assume that the skin would be removed from the duck's breast area first, to eliminate most of the fat. I would love to do a turducken, but not with a whole turkey!! I'd have to get the breast meat from all three birds and roll it up with the stuffing inside. I'd try to make a small Mini one, since it is only me. Like the small one pictured on the right!

To make it even easier to do and to cut down on the bulk of it, I think I'd cut up the duck & chicken breast while still raw, add the cut up meat to the stuffing, put it onto the flattened 1/2 turkey breast, roll it up and tie it with cooking twine & roast it on a high rack in a roasting pan! I'll call it a Mini-Turducken!! Hah!! Turducken Roll.jpg

I'm going to start getting the meat for this project by the end of the month! But I've only seen duck whole - not in pieces like the chicken & turkey. Might have to buy a small whole one just to get the breast meat from it!! I can freeze the wings legs & thighs and make duck comfeit sometime later.
