British Verses American Terms. (Not sure if you use the same terminology in Ireland as they do in England) But... Maybe this will help a little bit
England - USA
Rashers = Bacon strip
Aubergine = Egg Plant
Courgettes = Zucchini (pronounced Zoo - Kini)
Cornflour = Corn Starch

Check to see if you have ClearJel. Better than cornstarch, flour, tapioca, or arrowroot for thickening.

mcnerd. I had never heard of Clear Jel. I use flour, and cornstarch for thickeners. they work for me just fine.

Thanks for the replies, and the welcome.
We don't have clear-jel here or I haven't seen it, but I live in North West Ireland and usually do shoping local (or local by our standards 12 miles) better selection of shops are about 40 miles away so going tomorrow to get astro turf football trainers for kids before school starts and a visit to specsavers for me.
Thanks for the tips I knew the egg plant and that and now at least I can try recipes that include cornstarch.
One more thing I think Graham crackers are what we call digestive biscuit (make a great base for desserts like cheesecake banoffi pie once crushed and mixed with melted butter) am I right.????
Thanks

That's fine.
Just remember that you cannot use cornstarch, flour, or any of the other common thickeners in a "canning" recipe. You also won't have much success using such thickeners with cold foods or those that are frozen since they will cause the water to separate and curdle.
