looking to buy my son(culinary student)a manual pasta machine maker.anybody using one and any pros and cons on specific models.my budget is a couple hundred.seen machines as low as $39.00.are they any good?thanks

I would first ask him. There may be a specific model that is/will be used by everyone in the school. Like computers, no sense buying a PC if everyone in the school uses a Mac.

I have a cheapy, it works fine. only paid 30 dollars for mine. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I used one when I was attending a culinary arts training program.
Never thought any more about it, but now, I just might get one!
Several brands of stand mixers also can use them as accessories, such as K'Aid, Electrolux, Cuisinart, Delonghi, etc..

You know I just made some pasta yesterday for my chicken noodle soup. The cutters on this machine are not cutting all the noodles completely through I am having to pull them apart now. You might keep that in mind. As it becomes a pain in the butt.

There IS another way of doing i;
You can just roll the dough flat with a rolling pin, as you yould with pizza or pie dough, then take a pie crust cutter or a chef's knife and just cut the dough in long strips.
You might also want to try adjusting the machine so that the cutters cab cut the dough all the way through.
