I was just thinking about today being the fifth of July and small towns. When we lived in Kansas we lived in a fairly small town. Every year there was a parade on the 5th as well as Labor day. It seems to me that small town do more celebrating to draw tourists with parades and celebrations such as thhe one going on in one of the towns here. They had a parade and a peach festival. Every thing that you can think of made from the peach. In Kansas there would be a parade and a celebration of the countries heritage. Mountain men, cowboys, and the pioneers. They would showoff the antiques of the bygone days with all kinds of food. One year I was given a sourdough starter that has it's origins over 100 years ago. I miss those festivals. That is one thing that I miss about small towns.

I was born, and raised in the same place I live now. I am 23 so thats how long I have lived here. Our city is rapidly growing now, but back when I was a wee 1-2ish it was borderline town/city (not sure what the population is that makes a town a city). I have seen it grown is massive proportions. By any measure it is still a very small city, but to me it's getting big. Vancouver Canada is about a 2 hour ferry ride from my city, and that city is WAY to huge for me. It's a nice place to visit, but I would never want to live there..I still consider myself a "small town girl" even though these days it's more like a small city girl...

I live in a Gold Rush town in the northern Sierra Nevada foothills. I've lived here for the past eleven years. The population is around 13,000. We have 4th of July parades every year.
I've lived near NYC, near Detroit, near Miami, and across the bay from San Francisco but have truly found my home here in Grass Valley, California.

I am not from a small town but my grandparents lived in a small town in Colorado. When I went to visit them it always felt like I was going back in time. I don't want you to think this is a bad thing just different for me. I do like how they had old time diner's and shops that haven't changed since they were built. That gave the town character. Celebrations are a big deal in small towns because its actually something that occurs where almost 100 percent of the population is at one location at one time you can never have that occur in a major city.

I am not from a small town either, but lived in one for 14 years. It was a logging community, and we always had a parade and festival that lasted 3 days to mark the end of summer. the following day was the first day of scool. It was kinda nice. Now living in large cities, they have festivals and such but not like they do in small towns. I do like the Renaissance festivals, International festivals, Greek festivals, Art fetstivlas, and the Blues and Jazz fests. Or should I just say entertaining Food Fests!
