I HATE LIVER. i hate it so much, i can puke only by concentrating on it. this idea for a thread hit me while writing on the 'rules in your kitchen' thread and, of course, mine would be no liver. it tasted awful, i can't imagine why people eat it. and there is food that i don't like but find acceptable, like weird sea food or stuff like that. but liver, get out of here. liver should be cut off of every shopping list and menu on this planet. am i right or am i right?

It doesn't bother me if not everyone likes liver (Yum!) since it keeps the price down in the stores. Some people just don't like looking at or handling it when it is raw, but will eat it once cooked "properly". You definitely do not want to overcook it.

Long live Liver and Onions!

I LOVE LIVER. Especially with lots of onions and some bacon. It has to be calves liver because beef liver from older cows is awful. Makes a difference. I'll bet if you liver haters had calves liver cooked correctly you'd like it.
Maybe not. ;)

I was brought up with some wonderful liver dishes cooked by mother. I don't cook them often now but when I do, it is really nice when you know how to cook them.

My mum always used to cook me liver and I always moaned about it. Never liked it, Never liked the bacon fried with it either. She used to say it was good for me, was it?

Yes, very good for you, especially for men and women 31-50 years of age.

"A 3 oz serving of cooked liver is packed with many vitamins and minerals while not being calorie dense (149 kcal). In fact a 3 oz serving of cooked liver satisfies the recommended daily allowance for riboflavin, copper, Vitamin A, and Vitamin B12 for both men and women. In terms of niacin, women consuming 3 oz a day exceed their recommend daily amount by 6 percent while men receive 93% of the recommended daily allowance. Cooked liver also can make significant contributions (exceeding 40%) in the following nutrients:

Protein

Vitamin B6
Phosphorus
Iron (Men only; women have a high recommended daily allowance)
Zinc
Folate

However, cooked liver provides only a small proportion of the recommended daily allowance of carbohydrates, thiamin, and vitamin C. It should also be noted that all beef livers in the United States are inspected by USDA inspectors. These inspectors insure that the livers are not infected, contain no liver flukes, have no abscesses, and are fit for human consumption."

I enjoy calf liver a couple three time each year. I like it with sauted onions and bacon strips, served with mashed potatoes and a nice brown gravy. Add a couple slices of homemade bread and you have a substantial meal that is good for you.
