So I bought this MASSIVE bag of brocolli, and I've been eating the brocolli by nuking it, and then I nuke a little bowl of Cheese Wiz for dipping them into.

I bought the Cheese Wiz and brocolli just for this purpose in mind, with my intention being that it is healthy for me.

My question now is: is this healthy? A little bit? A lot? Not at all? I'm wondering if the cheese wiz nullifies any benefits that the brocolli give off. Like, is it worth it? Or should I just grab a hamburger?

Thanks :)

Broccoli is really good for you, and so is cheese. My suggestion to you would be to read the label on the cheez whiz. If it contains a lot of stuff that sounds scary, then it might not be as good for you it seems. (I don't know if it does or not, as I haven't purchased any for years.) On the other hand, you might be right. The broccoli might nullify the bad stuff that's been added to the cheeze whiz. The important thing is, don't stop eating that broccoli!

Well after eating that humungous bag of brocolli, I don't think I'll touch another piece for a long time... it's just too hard forcing yourself to eat so much of a particular food group without going crazy...

I'm not eating carrots.. but it's still the same question in theory; I'm eating the carrot sticks with dip and does that equate to being more benefial in the end or harmful?

It doesn't matter how many carrots you are going to eat. In order to the carotin which is in carrots is acquired by your body is necessary to eat carrots with vegetable oil or meat fat.

Maybe instead of the cheese wiz you just use regular grated cheese. I don't know what is in cheese wiz as it isn't available in Australia but I am sure it has a few extra ingredients in it that aren't that good for you.

If you use grated cheese instead of the cheese whiz you have an option to go with a light variety and therefore get less calories etc.

When I buy a lot of brocolli I like to make this recipe. It is so tasty, and good for you too.

BROCCOLI BEAN AND BOWTIE PASTA SALAD

4 oz bowtie pasta cooked tender and drained
11 oz can mandarin oranges; drained
15 oz can garbanzo beans; drained and rinsed
1 large bunch of fresh broccoli; washed, trimmed and chopped
2 green onions; sliced thin

Dressing:

1/4 c white vinegar
1/4 c orange juice
1 tbs vegetable oil
1 tsp basil
1 tsp oregano
1/4 tsp minced garlic
1/4 tsp pepper

In large salad bowl, toss cooled pasta with mandarin oranges and vegetables. In a shaker container combine ingredients for the dressing; shake to mix.

Pour dressing over the salad. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until serving time.

hhmmm, Well here are the stats, I will let you decide :)

Nutrition Facts
Serving Size: (100 grams)

Amount Per Serving
Calories: 276

Total Fat 21g 32%
Saturated Fat 13g 65%
Cholesterol 75mg 25%
Sodium 1638mg 68%
Total Carboydrates 9g 3%
Dietary Fiber 0g ~
Sugars 7g ~

although, I am just as bad. I usually nuke it, slather it with butter and sprinkle on some Grated Parmesan from the famous green can. Probably still better for you than a Big Mac, plus I love it.

OK, Nochef, just to clarify, these stats are for the broccoli with cheez whiz, right? (Seems like too much fat and sodium to be for the salad posted directly above your post)

Tyler, you could take some of your broccoli, and chop it very small and add about a 1/2 cup to your frozen rice balls. I would blanch the broccoli in a pot of salted water. Bring the water to a boil, add the chopped broccoli, and turn off the burner. the hot water will cook the broccoli. then just stir into your rice. it becomes a great side dish.

Last night Tyler and I had some fun in the kitchen. In reality Tyler did most of the cooking and I assisted but it was nice all the same. We made brocolli and cheese cannelloni. There was 4 cups of brocolli in it!

Here is a picture. However the picture does not do it justice one bit.

I cannot begin to describe how yummy it was.

The reciepe is in one of Tyler's cook books so maybe he will post it if there is interest.

:D

Looks Yummy !!! I have always had a weakness for rice, specfically brown rice. But, I dearly love Couscous as being more versatile. I know, maybe an apple and orange comparison, but. LOL

As much as I love my meat, I have also loved vegatables and was for years, a vegan.. Long story, sometime when we have a calm period here on the thread. :)

Oh, BTW I also love spinach, squash and my underated best friend eggplant. Here is a fancy ( sort of) recipe I found years ago that I love to use on "date night". yes, I am single, send inquiries............... enjoy..
