Do you find any one franchise healthier than others? It may be just a misconception on my part but I prefer Wendy's or In-n-out over McDonald's or Burger King. Maybe this is just because the latter two have been "criticized" more but then again, maybe my choices ARE in fact healthier. What do you think?

I think all the fast food chains serve food that are equally unhealthy. The simple reason they are delicious is that the stuff are deep fried in fat. Eat fast food sparingly like alcohol.

WORD. nowadays, corporations fake everything and marketing fools you into believing that don't know what fast food restaurant is sent by God. in fact, even the fruits in the salads they sell are more and more made of plastic. it's crazy out there. just don't put your trust nto anything you don't cook for yourself

If you have to choose fast food, choose something like Subway and carefully choose your toppings.

yes i agree with the above - subway is quite good and with the right filling is healthy enough. Also places like spud u like and ok, complex carbs, with the right filling can be tasty and healthy.
I would avoid placed like mc d's and burger king, even thier salads are now good for you at all.

Me too. I had been to Mcdonalds few times. But now a days I like to go to subways or some snacks center (http://www.boorah.com/restaurants/c/6069/IL/Oak-Park.html).

All fast food outlets are bad. If you have to go to one order a bottle of water.
Subway is the best if you choose the right toppins. Stay away from cheeses, mayo and meet balls.

I've actually found a great chain that serves healthy food: Chipotle Mexican Grill. All their meat is naturally raised and the food's delicious. I've lost a lot weight after starting to either there every night. It's also cheap: $6.00 for a HUGE steak fajita.

Yes some fast food places are more healthy then others. A few healthy choices include: Subway, Quiznos, Pita Pit, Wendy's is the best of the burger places for health imo.

Think since removing trans fats from their facility, that now Kentucky Fried Chicken is a good place to eat as long as you are careful about the quantity of the food you put away.

KFC now has grilled chicken, I think. If I were looking for a somewhat healthier alternative I would go with that.
Mayonnaise and cheese are not bad for you, especially not cheese. They both can be fattening, but they're not unhealthy for you, per se.
I actually think that reduced fat and low fat products are more dangerous for your health as they replace the natural fat with poisons and cancer-causing chemicals. Frankly, I would rather eat smaller portions of healthful, full-fat foods than eat more chemical-packed low-fat foods.

Their chicken is STILL unhealthy because reguardless of how it is cooked, it is STILL atrociously friggen salty.
Even the grilled chicken which I tried the very first day that it was introduced. WICKED SALTY!!
I know someone who ate KFC by the bucket quite often until he had a small stroke. I think now, he gave up eating KFC and has begun to change his eating habits drastically!

I think that the problem was he ate way too much KFC. Even unhealthy foods can be fit into a healthy diet if they are eaten in moderation.
With physical activity at an all time low and portion sizes at an all time high, this leads to lots of health problems.
The secret is learning what are everyday foods and what are "sometimes" foods.
If you are on a low salt diet, soon everything will taste WICKED SALTY! To most of us it will taste only moderately salty and to those who's diet is made up of mostly fast food and processed foods it will not taste very salty at all, and they may even salt it. So something tasting salty is very relative. Companies try to shoot for a salt level that will appeal to a wide range of people.

Yes he did. And this was almost on a daily basis!
I have HBP and a heart condition, which neccesitaties being on a low-sodium diet.
I'm also a diabetic.
And you're right! That type of food has to be eaten in moderation, as moderation is key to a longer living, healthier & happier lifestyle.
I love fried chicken myself, and I try to eat it very sparingly, but I just HATE all of that blasted salt that's on it!!! That is why when I cook, very little salt goes in the food. And I've been eating a lot of veggies as of late, which is GOOD!

Just because sandwich shops claim they are healthy, doesn't mean its true! Once you add all the dressing, cheese and bread you end up eating a lot of fat and calories! Try going for a salad with light dressing or no dressing. Most fast food places offer a nice variety of salads, and they can be better for you than going to Subway and getting a foot long stuffed with cheese, mayo and dressing!

Much of the things fast food chains serve you is unhealthy indeed, but mainly because of the way they cook it and the ingredients they combine. It's the frying in fat or the high calorie sauces that make things unhealthy. And of course the large high calorie coke you have with it.
If you want to eat out and you are health conscious, check for something with salad or vegetables, not fried, with a low-fat or no dressing. And by all means: Don't go for the largest portion they offer! This is usually way too much food and this overeating obviously also gives you too many calories. If you feel the bigger portion is a great deal (sometimes it's cheaper) then share it with a friend, or only eat half of it and keep the rest for the next day.
Another fact that often makes us overeat on fast food is most likely that we often eat it in a hurry. We are very hungry and quickly need food, and we don't have much time to eat. The result is that we eat too fast, and we have eaten way too much before we even have a chance to notice that we are full. Try to take you time and enjoy your meal, and listen to your body when it says it had enough.
And as many already said: Keep it as an occasional outing, not your regular food. No one has ever died or fallen ill because of eating at McDonalds or KFC once a month when he was eating healthy the rest of the time. If you had KFC for lunch, make sure you have something light like a salad or sandwich for supper to balance.
Happy healthy eating to all!

Most places ARE health-concious these days.
Especially where eating healthy was the main thing these days where tranfats were used to cook some foods.
If nothing else, salads and other healthy items are now in an abundance practically everywhere. And a baked chicken breast is more healthy over beef.

I really hate Burger King (makes me want to vomit every time I think about eating there) and I'm not a fan of McDonald's either.
I love Wendy's, and my favorite is Taco Bell. But I'm pretty sure all fast food restaurants are probably pretty unhealthy. It would be nice if they started offering some healthier versions of their already tried and true meals (like switching to whole grain buns, using some lower fat/calorie ingredients, using veggies and fruit from local growers, etc) but somehow I don't think they see those things as cost effective.

Subway DOES have healthier alternatives with their subs. Quizno's has well.

Burger King, McDonald's and Wendy's wants to try to wow people with fattening double and triple, or even quadruple wicked salty bacon cheesburgers!

If given a choice, I usually choose Subway, because it is a bit healthier (if I leave off the mayo, LOL) and because I LOVE subs.
But Taco Bell..... well, I if I didn't care about healthy, my middle name would be Yo Quiro, hahahaha!

I love subs too, especially the cold cut and tuna salad ones, I and grew up eating them as a child.
In place of mayo, which I don't like on bread, I'll ask for either a small amount of Southwest Chipotle Sauce or a little oil.

IT's interesting. I used to load my Subway subs up with the entire freaking salad bar of toppings... the more the merrier, right?
Then I realized that I wasn't enjoying the subs like I used to, so I cut it back to basics..
tomato, lots of onions, banana peppers, lettuce, sometimes cuke.
And I started liking my subs again.
(I prefer a classic Italian sub, myself... the BMT. And their Club is good. Other than those, all I've had is the tuna and the meatball.)
Big Daddy's House
11-16-2009, 03:38 PM
Yeah, Italian subs are good, but the meat is salty. I like meatball subs also, but I DON'T like all that tomato sauce that they put on there. They always have a tendancy to put too much on there! Makes the roll too friggen soggy, which I hate with a pure passion someting fierce!!
So I ask for the sub dry with some sauce on the side. Anywhere I get a meatbal sub, I ask for the tomato sauce on the side. That way, I can put only the amount that I want on the sub.
Kimchee
11-16-2009, 11:23 PM
The one time I had a meatball sub, i bought it To Go. Was driving a friend's car, and thought I would eat it on the road.
Not. Pulled over, got out and ate that thing standing beside the car. Messy messy messy.
I am totally in agreement with you. Sauce on the side, and soggy bread is nasty.

Dag!! You know it. Never accept a meatball sub that way again.

In Australia we have this fantastic burger chain called Grill'd. Bread is not soggy and fillings are fresh and generous. Borders on expensive (10-12 AUD for a burger - not including chips), but they are certainly filling and not at all greasy.

I would have to say Boston Market & Chick-Fil-A are the 2 most healthiest places i can think of eating when not cooking....and honestly I would prefer siting down at a restaurant any time before fast food but it is the fastest...lol oh and Chipotle would be my 3rd choice for sure! oh and someone mentioned ordering bottled water at the very least when eating at a fast food chain but bottled or not its all the same water...at least your most common bottle waters are ie, Ozarka, Aquafina etc... its written on the side of the water bottle check it out next time but when it comes to bottle water i would stick to Fiji ;) and how funny you don't find that kind of water at these places (i never have)
