My sister took some camping courses the other week and told me a few things she leaned about food poisoning. People seem to be very disinterested when it comes to this problem. So, how quickly do you know you have food poisoning? I know the answer to this question can vary greatly, but in general, would you know you have food poisoning relatively quickly or would it take many hours (6-12) before you felt sick? Does it matter how much of a contaminated food you eat? For example, if you eat a piece of meat that is not fully cooked in the center but most of the rest of the piece is fully cooked, is there as much risk as if almost the entire piece is undercooked?

I have only had food poisening once. I knew it was poisening because my friend that I had been dining with (and sharing a dish with) and I both became ill several hours after we dined at a certain restaurant....I think the total time sick was less then 24 hours (but with many bathroom trips during that time, probably till we were cleaned out)....
With food poisening it probably depends what the poisening agent is how sick you get and how long it takes, as well as what your signs and symptoms are...

I know I have food poisoning when I need to go to the toilet twice within half and hour or so; so far my food poisoning experiences had all been overseas and my holidays have all been ruined because of this.

I once got food poisoning from a shop bought cornish pasty. I ate it at lunchtime and within about four hours I became very unwell. I certainly knew I had food poisoning, I thought i was going to die! It lasted for two or three days, my husband and his parents were ill too so the bathroom was in great demand.

When I was a kid, I experienced a lot of food poisoning. Now I'm careful about the quality of the food I purchase and eat( and the process of cooking). Though I've taken these measures, 3-4 years ago I had a terrible experience. I suspect a nearby restaurant to be the cause of my food poisoning. For 3 days, I experienced diarrhea and vomiting. I called a doctor because the symptoms went on more than 48 hours. Food poisoning can be a deadly illness.

I never had food poisoning, so i have no idea how you can tell. I guess you feel sick after you eat or something. I really don't know how it feels and i hope i never will.

The one time I had food poisoning, I knew within 2-4 hours. And then I was sick for the next 24. It was really unpleasant.
I never had this kind of problem.
I have a cousin who always had issues with some foods, he got sick and had to throw up. He even ended up in a hospital a few times, it was horrible. I, thought maybe he was allergic or something, it is very strange for me.
