6 individual steaks
3 canned pimentos, sliced
4 tsp chopped parsley
2 cloves
2 tbsp salt
¾ cup bread crumbs
¼ tsp dried ground chili peppers
1 tsp Spanish paprika
3 onions chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
4 tbsp olive oil
1 green pepper
1 carrot cubed
6 chopped tomatoes
2 slice half-cook bacon, minced
1 bay leaf

Heat olive oil in a frying pan. Add onions and garlic, sauté for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add green pepper, tomatoes, carrots, bay leaf bacon, cloves chili pepper, paprika and salt. Cover and cook over low heat for half an hour, stirring often. Cook over the lowest possible heat while preparing the steaks. Take out and discard the bay leaf.

Heat the frying pan, add the steaks and fry over heat for 3 minutes on each side. Place the steaks on a platter and pour the sauce over them. Arrange pimentos on top and sprinkle with parsley. Serve immediately.

I've cooked this dish a few months ago when I entered the office's cooking contest. It's absolutely delicious. I didn't use all the ingredients (I couldn't find green pepper at the time), but everyone was amazed of the results. I'm a little confused about the name of the recipe... Is it Vaca Frita or Vaca Fripta?

I think that we could cook any meal if all the ingredients aren’t available. I believe this because I have done it in the past and it taste just the same. Of course, we must separate the much needed and ingredient from the less needed or those ingredients we can afford to not have.
