I have always been really anal about eating healthily, but I recently started a new job where I don't really have time to take a lunch break. Any suggestions about foods that are healthy and easy to prepare that I can bring with me to work? I have pretty much been munching on veggies, edaname, and nuts for the past few weeks and I am getting really sick of it. I wouldn't mind so much except that I end up being out for about 12 hours (because of the commute) and would like some variety for my at desk lunches.

I think that you can try some sandwich to be munched on the road while you are traveling. You can try preparing them at home. Have you ever tried preparing one?
I think that everyone could do them because they can be done so easily. As an example, you can try preparing an egg sandwich. The procedure is really easy.

Boil the egg until it is cook then wait for it until it is cool and peel off the shells. After peeling you can then mash it mix it with mayonnaise. Now, you can put it on your sandwich.

wildfire, it depends on several things, like your budget (if you can afford it, order some pizza at your work place), your cooking skills (if you are a good cook, you could try preparing something from home, perhaps even try some sandwiches recipes from a cook book) and your food prefferences (do you like healthy food or are you more of a fast-food type of person?)...

Assuming you have access to a refrigerator and microwave at work, your options are almost unlimited. There are some very good spill-proof containers designed for mobile meals that will hold sandwiches, stews, soups, leftovers, etc., that can be made at home, carried to work, popped into the frig and then the microwave as needed. Saves a ton of money over time.

After you do it a few times you get better at it, but then you run the risk of fellow employees stealing your meals.

Assuming you have access to a kettle at work you could try those packet soups that you make in a cup. Some are better than others so you would need to check the ingredients. I like the ones that have pasta in, they taste good and they make you feel full. I always take an apple to work as well.

Packing your own food is good becaue you pick what you like, you save money and time. The downside is of course lack of social contact and office gossip.

I suggest you make some sandwiches. They are good, tasty and you can put whatever you want on them. I especially like sandwiches with cheese and tomatoes, they are really good.
Also, you can take chicken wings or something along, it really saves you the time and money from ordering them.

You can even try to make some peanut sandwich. They are pretty easy to be done. I think that you wouldn’t find any trouble on making one for yourself. Just get bread and spread the peanut butter all over it.

I eat a salad (and make one for my husband to bring for lunch) every day. Salad doesn't have to be boring. I use garbanzos, tuna, chicken, chicken salad with apples and walnuts, roasted peppers, nuts, pasta, pepperoni... all sorts of things! Healthy, inexpensive, and easy to transport.

Try something like an english muffin with natural peanut butter

How about some chow main or pizza? There are so many possibilities, any particular foods you would like us to explore?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sorry to post something so vague and sound like a total moron. I have a really long commute to work in the morning (2 hours ish) on the bus and so was looking for something that won't go bad and was still healthy. I like sandwiches, but am awful at comming up with inventive things to do with them. (I pretty much stick to roast beef, white cheddar, horseradish sauce, and tomato sandwiches, though I do love a good turkey with sprouts and provolone).

I loved the soup suggestion. For some reason, I didn't even think of that. I guess I just never really eat soup.

I guess I was looking for healthy sandwich ideas.
