I wouldn’t lie that I never ever eat some junk foods. I like eating junk foods as I work at home. I think that I would never have the power to resist eating junk foods. I know that we can get a lot of benefits by eating healthy. Do you eat healthy foods all the time or eating some junk food is part of your eating habits?

I think that would prefer eating healthy foods but I can’t really say that I can eat healthy food all the time because I’m just a human being who is prone to mistakes. I can’t say that I have never eaten any junk food all my life. This is the truth!

I eat junk food quite often, but not in large quantities. I think that the nutritionist isn’t pertaining to junk foods when they are saying to eat a balance meal. A balance meal consist of fish, vegetable, pork, chicken, eggs and a lot more but I’m sure that junk foods isn’t one of them.

I think all of us would benefit from avoiding junk food alltogether... but it would be HARD! I almost never eat it, but when I do I REALLY enjoy my junk food. And I don't feel too guilty, because it's a very occasional thing.

Of course everyone eats junk food :D
I for one am in to big of a hurry to make myself sandwiches in the morning and so i buy a hamburger or something on my way to work and eat all that junk almost everyday.
Of course, my wife is very aware of this and she cook healthy meals for us for when i come back home, as a way of 'balancing' things :)

Junk food is on every corner, it's hard to stay away from it but somehow i manage :)
I make myself sandwiches before school or if i know I'll be tired in the morning, i make them before i go to bed. (You should try that, Ralphy :D )
I know how sick my dad was one after eating some fried potatoes from the town.. he was sick for a few days, poor him. Since then i keep away from junk food as much as i can..

I try to balance this as much as I can. Even if I like fast-food and the sweets I try to integrate veggies and fruits to my diet to so that I don't endanger my health and weight in the end. It's hard to keep off these foods nowadays, there are everywhere

Healthy and balanced food is very much important to keep our self fit. In week days I usually prefer to take healthy foods like in morning I use to take fruits, in lunch lots of salad and then other foods and in dinner also but in weekend I can't resist myself to eat fast foods like in MacDonald and in KFC. I love to eat burger, french fries with cold drink.

A very dear & true friend of mine who often comes over, is kind of a junk food junkie. He likes to drink beer and some booze a lot (he's an alcoholic).

He'll eat potato chips, pork skins and other non-essential foods, but he often won't eat a square meal. Getting him to eat anything other than junk food is sometimes a miracle in and of itself!!

Well this evening, he wanted some split pea soup (I told him about a week ago that I wanted to make some), so I made it for him. He ate a bowl of it. I was happy that he enjoys it. I just wish that he would eat right more often.

Good for him that he wanted some pea soup this evening. His lifestyle is not very healthy. He should realize that he's going to kill himself with what he's eating or drinking (especially alcohol).

Why don't you try to invite him once in a while to eat over at your place, so he could eat something healthy and not junk foods.

Ha!! Funny that you should say that.

Where do you think he had some of the split pea soup?

I made it for him here at my place. He's been coming over here quite often just about every day on a regular basis.

He loves my cooking, and he loves me to death like I'm one of his dearly-departed brothers! I'm his best friend. He lost all of his three brothers (I lost one of mine, also), and I guess he has no one - no true male role model in his life who really cares about him that can steer him in the right direction and talk to him and get him to eat healthier like I do, my other friend and his two sisters. I'm sensing that he thinks of me and looks up to me as one of his dearly-depated brothers. I'm very appreciative of that!

I get worried SICK about him if I don't hear from him on a daily basis. He has my phone number so that he can call me whenever he wants to. And he DOES!! I'd much rather have him calling me all day and night than to only hear from him once in a while. This way, I know that he's alright. He needs me to try to help him.

He lives up the street and alone like me, and he's single like me. We both even share the same Zodiac sign, Virgo! We are 5 years apart in age. I try my best to make sure that he has some food of nutritional value in his stomach. When I plan to go over to another friend's place for a little get-together with a tasty hot dish, I always include HIM in on it just so that he can enjoy my cooking, while at the same time, get a delicious tasty healthy hot meal in his stomach. My joy is seeing and having him eat healthy.

I try a lot to explain to him that the junk food he eats is in no way of any nutritional value. He knows that, but I think he seems to want it anyway as a way to get something in his stomach fast. He's well aware that I care about him very dearly. He's my buddy, whom I like to refer to him as!!

Can't help but to feel so bad for him. He really likes me a lot and he enjoys his visits here ay my place! I like him too, but it isn't easy trying to get him to eat properly and drink less. He listens to me a lot though, and he knows that his diet is not of the right foods. Hopefully, I can convince him to see and change the errors of his ways and help make a very big difference in his life.

Well, my friend was here yesterday and he ate the last of the split pea soup. Good. I had another bowl of it just before he came over.

He truly and honestly enjoyed it!! He always wants to know when I'm cooking again and what. I'm going to a party this evening. He wanted to know if he can come over before I go. I told him he can come over earlier in the day if he wants to. It's almost like he was a little saddened thinking he might not be able to visit me today ("So I won't be able to see you tomorrow?"). We've really become brothers in arms!

He's really become attached to me like a brother (he also has a mental disorder - schizophrenia). I've become one of the very few friends whom he trusts. He also has a nephew who lives in the neighborhood - the son of one of his brothers who died. He seems all alone, and I guess since I came into his life, he seems very happy to have me as a friend!

Told him that I'll be making some Philly Cheese Steak Subs next week. His face lit up!! He smiled from ear to ear! The idea is to persuade him into eating more healthier foods and less junk food. He'll buy some food most of the time when he wants me to cook something for him.

I want him to see that eating junk food all the time is not good for anyone. He DOES like trail mix though. Evidence of that is when he finished the last of it yesterday evening. He's been eating it since he's been coming over. At least THAT isn't junk food.

My friend was back over yesterday. He LOVES it here!

He went shopping with me to pick up a few things. He also bought 2 live lobsters and he wanted me to cook them for him, so I did.

I also made 2 small salads, which he loved as well. He ate like a king!! That was one of the times that he really enjoyed eating with me and eating healthy! I was so happy!

I made some garlic butter to dip the lobster meat into and some steak fries. He was too full to eat the fires, but at least he got some healthy food in his stomach yesterday evening! I'm so glad that he did! He ate to his heart's content.

He went back to his apartment feeling very full & satisfied! I'm so glad to be making a positive motivation in his life! He realises that.

I made some more split pea soup for my friend yesterday.

He ate some of it then, and he was going to eat some of it today, but he changed his mind. Says that he'll have a sammie when he gets home.

I think that I'm slowly getting through to him on the importance of eating right and healthy. He seems to forget at times, but he certainly means well.

Looks like he might have a slight disorder because he sometimes asks the same question twice or more. Still he's a very nice person, and I don't love him any less. I make sure that he eats. He's my buddy!

It's good to know that he visits your place regularly, that way he can eat healthy foods. You should always remind him to eat healthy foods since you mentioned that he listens to you. Maybe he'll follow your advice.

That's the whole idea.

If he eats junk food first, then like small a child, he won't eat dinner or whatever meal I make for him. He'll respectfully decline the meal and turn it down. He's kind of like a child at heart.

As the saying goes, never let a person go hungry. He knows that I care about him an awful lot. We're very lucky to be close friends because we care about each other!

I don't ever want to see him go without any food in his stomach. He knows this. It's not that he doesn't have any food at home. He does. But I don't mind sharing my meals with him.

And if I can get him to at least cut down on his alcohol intake, then I'll feel like I've done my job and helped to make a big difference in his life!

He's my buddy.

Chinese food is also very high in sodium content.

But if you ask the place where you get it from to omit the MSG, then it would not be so salty. I sometimes do that.

Speaking of Chinese food, my friend also likes it. I plan to take him out to one in the suburbs one evening so that he can spend a few hours away from his place and to help him get out of the rut that he's been in.

Be careful.... Popular "Chinese" food is NOT that healthy. PF Chang, Pei Wei.... they all have some whopping high calorie and fat contents in much of their food.
It's a cuisine worth learning to cook at home... very easy to do, easy to learn spice combos, and super healthy if you pay attention!
It is a wonderful way to use less meat and more veggies.

And also, don't bother asking any of the Chinese restaurants to remove the MSG from the appitisers such as boneless ribs and fried chicken wings because it is already in there during the marinating process.

I know that they serve high calorie foods but it's not like I eat there everyday. I only eat at chinese restaurants when I feel like and Pei Wei and Ocean City are 2 of my favorite chinese restaurants here in Salt Lake.. and I also know that they put on alot of MSG on their food, so it's fine because I only eat there maybe once or twice a month. I usually cook my own food..

Eating junk food is not good for our health. Many people are addicted to junk foods because of the pleasure associated with them. I think eating junk food occasionally is fine. Its bad to make a habit of eating junk food.

PappaLazarou

As long as you embrace a balanced diet, junk food is OK occasionally as long as you treat it as a guilty pleasure. That means no more than twice a week. If its KFC then possibly only once a week. LOL

Big Daddy's House

I stay away from KFC, and only go there once every blue moon. Too salty!

Don't buy Banquet's frozen fried chicken either, as it has well over 1,000 miligrams of salt!!

It is better to cook at home than eating all the time in fast foods or in restaurant. But somehow, we just can't avoid eating outside. But if we can lessen it like, eating outside twice a month or once a month will be great! :)

There are only 3 places where I'd get fried chicken. Tried it at these 3 places and the seasomnings and salt taste evenly balanced. It is not overbearingly salty either!!

Last month at or near the beginning of the summer, I just became friends with a guy who works up the street. This guy is very big, a tad on the short side, but he's still young, in his middle thirties though his size makes him look older.

He's a very nice person from what I can see about him, but he's very heavy and he has big stocky legs. He seems to be able to carry his weight very well. He told me that he loves to eat (Can't you tell that I like to eat?' he asked me). Who dosen't? I told him that I can tell that he loves to eat. I just hope that he doesn't have any health problems from him being overweight or obese!!

Question is, WHAT exactly DOES he like to eat? I truly hope that he IS eating healthy because I don't want to lose him!! He seems to be a very happy and jolly person though! He works with young at-risk kids, helping them to get into the love and training of music. He's a music teacher. He teaches music.

I don't want to become an enemy with him or make him one, so I don't ask him what he likes to eat. I've never seen him mad and I wouldn't even want to press my luck with him!! Hopefully someday soon, I'll be able to find out without asking him. I plan to invite him out to eat soon, sometime during the summer.

Hi there, chef_kim here. we cannot deny the fact that junk food is everywhere, but the thing is that we must know the real meaning of junk food in order to classify all the kinds of food that we eat. Basically, junk foods are compose of chips, candies, soda and a lot more. For some reason, there are some nutritional information written in every package but we are not really if these are good for the body. Best thing to do is to consult with a nutritionist. Eating is good but choosing the right kind of food is best. I too eat junk food, but i see to eat that i only eat once in while.

Thats true Kim! In junk foods theres too much fat! Junk foods such as hamburgers, pizza, fried chicken and chips usually contain loads of saturated fats. Too much saturated fat in the diet will cause people to put on weight and get fat or obese (very fat). Being overweight is a risk to the health of the heart and can cause other diseases. And theres too much salt! Junk foods often have too much salt. There's a lot of salt already in foods such as bread, breakfast cereals and biscuits and cakes. So people are getting more salt than they need when they eat junk food. Too much salt is unhealthy for the heart.

Chef Kim wrote: "Best thing to do is to consult with a nutritionist. "

Au contraire.

If you are serious you need to consult a dietician. There is a big difference between a Registered Dietician (R.D.) and a nutritionist. Anybody can be and/or call them selves a nutritionist. There are no rules, regulations or laws on who can call themself a nutritionist.

A Dietician on the other hand must be degreed and have taken certain courses and more.

Read the following article. A licensed R.D.'s dog has a nutritionist certificate:

http://www.healthline.com/blogs/diet_nutrition/2008/05/nutritionist-vs-dietitian.html

There are a lot of nutritionists out there that are spewing all kinds of false and untrue information. Not all. But some.

And by the way, the nutrition label on the back of food prodicts is required by the federal government. That is where that comes from. It is not perfect as manufactures can still manipulate some data. But it is a good guide.

Of course, the front of the label can make all kinds of wild and crazy and sometimes untrue claims about nutrition. Never believe the front label.

well, what exactly is defined as "junk food"? A bag of doritos, a candy bar, any kind of candy as a matter of fact? would a california burrito at the taco stand be considered junk food? i know it tastes like heaven at 2am in the morning after a night of drinking though!

That's right.

The healthier alternatives are fresh fruits & veggies, granola bars and trail mix.

Burritos are good, but even healthier if you have some fresh veggies put into them. :)

Maple4k, you're probably the 4th or so new member that has posted a false sig with spamming solicitation links. According to the new rule that was put in place by Tyler, NO NEW MEMBER is allowed to post ANY sigs, false or otherwise. You much reach 100 posts before posting any sig at all.

This new-found practice being used by new members just signing up to skirt around Tyler's ruling is going to cease. Your post has been deleted. I''ve now grown very tired of having to moderate new members' post because they want to post spamming false sigs
at the bottom of their posts.

Anyone else who is a new member here that does this, from now on, will receive a 20-point infraction and will be BANNED. Last ride, no more exceptions, no more warnings, no more excuses or anything else.

Just the other day, I met this man at work who is obese and weighs over 400lbs!! Looks like he eats a lot.

He told me today, that that is his present weight. Didn't want to upset him by saying this, but he's morbidly obese, and he's only 38 years old!

Immediately, I began to feel bad for him. I suggested to him that he should look into having the operation (stomach reducing) done. He said that he doesn't want it. Told him that if he has it done, it would increase his chances of living much longer. He automatically qualifies for it because he is more than 100lbs overweight.

He seems to carry his weight very well, though. Looks like he does have many friends because maybe, they might feel ashamed of being seen with him because of his size, but I don't care. His size and weight doesn't make me embarrassed to be seen with him. About the only thing that I care and worry about is his health and well being.

He told me that obesity runs on his mom's side of the family. I told him that it is the same in my family. He's very friendly and he looks like a very nice person. I just hope that nothing bad happens to him though. Don't want him to die. I'd like to see him get some help.

I always feel so much better when I eat fresh, seasonal produce. However I have to say I do enjoy the odd pitta bread with chips and salad.
