We have two very large, pear trees in our backyard. Some years we have so many pears we don't know what to do with them. We make pear muffins, and cake. Does anyone have any ideas for other things to make with pears?

What about a jam? Or pear ice cream would be really good if you have an ice cream maker. Pear ice cream in the summer.. imagine it..

Thanks for the ideas Tyler. We don't have an ice cream maker. Pears seem too fibrerous to me for jam. It could be done, but I perfer jam made with berries.
On a side note, the trees are looking full this year. Last year was not a good year. The year before that, we were up to our knees in pears. We gave buckets of them to the neighbors and we still had way too many.

Well it is now pear season, and the pears and falling by the bucketfulls. So last night I baked four pear pies. Here is my recipe.:p
Crust-- Standard Pastry1 ˝ cups all purpose flour

Mix flour and baking powder together. Cut in shortening. Add cold water. Knead dough. Roll into pie shaped circles. Place in greased pie plate.

Place cut up pears in unbaked pie crust. Sprinkle on top all remaining ingredients. Place top pie crust on pie. Seal the two crusts together. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-40 minutes.
