We were never able to have excellent baking results at home and my wife always told me there is something wrong with the over. So, from your experience as baking is concerned what are the requirements for a good oven? What is your experience in this?

If you want a perfect baked cake you should first take care of the ingredients:
-Invest in good chocolate, fruit fillings, nuts etc. You will taste the difference if you start with the best ingreedients.
-Always use fresh eggs. Eggs separate best when cold, but egg whites whip up best at room temperature.
-Butter gives the best flavor.A cake is a treat. Live a little!

About the oven... Turn it on for 10-15 minutes before you plan to use it to allow time for it to heat to baking temperature.

Well, if you want to know if the oven is acurate you need to invest in 2 oven thermometers and place one in the front and one in the back and see if there is a variation in temperature. Most ovens are off by 50 degrees, sometimes more. Even the temp in the oven can vary. If you find that the temp is off you can either have the oven recalibrated or, depending on the age, get a new one.

For us the most important thing that makes a difference usually turns out to be when you take the pan out of the oven. I suppose it depends on your taste, whether you like them very well-baked or not, so the only way to find this out is by trial and error.

The most important thing in baking is to measure the ingredients EXACTLY!

Other tips;
check oven temperature for accuracy
use fresh ingredients and good quality
follow directions exactly

It could also be that your recipes werent good.
Give it another go, it's lots of fun
