Perhaps it may sound like a silly question (I have been told this once on an internet message board), but are any of you vegetarians...? Or any of your relatives or friends? I, for instance, am not and I'm not planing on becoming one, although I do my best to have a healthy diet...
What's your view on this subject?

Welcome Benton,
I was an Pescatarian for many years and really enjoyed those times. ( no class, I am not going to expalin that one, look up the different types of vegeatrians) :)
After my divorce, let's just say that I strayed heavily into ale and then back to all meat, but now I try to eat healthy. I especially like the macrobotic angle.
anyone else?

Hi Benton
I admire vegetarians myself. I wish I could be one. However my diet and taste preferences will likely never allow me to be one..

I am not a vegetarian since it's really hard to keep from all the good meat meals my wife prepares. Still, I try to eat as many vegetables and fruits as possible and maybe try a healthier diet as years go by. Am not getting younger :)

I am a happy vegetarian :)
I haven't eaten meat in over 2 years now and i feel good.
There were no changes when i suddenly stopped eating meat, i felt like i was eating like usual, only without that ingredient :)
I heard there are people who get fat when becoming vegetarians or some people get sick or don't feel full after a vegetarian meal, but i think this depends on the person.

I’m not a vegetarian and not looking to be one because being a vegetarian takes a lot of good food out of my menu. I don’t like the fact that I can’t eat meat and animals product like eggs, milk, and butter. I’m sticking to my normal diet.

I admire vegetarians also.
I think it took them a lot of courage to give up the meat.
I heard a lot of stories about people who wanted to become vegetarians but in the end they gave up.. they missed the meat to much :)

Two of my friends are vegetarians, but we don't visit each other very much because we live in different counties (we mostly talk on messenger and phone). Last year we met at a (commemorative) lunch at the restaurant and they've ordered vegetarian dishes... Potatoes fried in olive oil and soya soup... They say it's mostly about the fact that they are pacifists and are against animal killing, not to be healthier...

My daughter (19) has been a vegetarian for almost ten years, it was a steep learning curve for me at first, but I soon got used to adapting meals to provide her with a vegetarian option. My daughter is very healthy, she enjoys food and she says that she has no desire to eat meat. I eat meat but I am careful to buy free range products and meat that has been produced in accordance with animal welfare standards.

I'm not vegetarian. I don't feel guilty when I eat meat. My ancestors ate meat to survive. I was raised this way and I can't change. My grandfather gave me a knife and a chicken when I was 15 years old and he said to me: "this is dinner, son". I've got carnivore pride, I admit. Besides, how will I get vitamin A and B12?

I don’t know a vegetarian person but I admire them for his healthy way of life. I know that when you are vegetarian from your feed is missing the vitamin B. You need to get a feed supplement.

I love pork and chicken too much to be a vegetarian. But I think it is good to be one - just not me.
A quote from Henry David Thoreau
I have no doubt that it is a part of the destiny of the human race, in its gradual improvement, to leave off eating animals, as surely as the savage tribes have left off eating each other when they came in contact with the more civilized.

I’m not a vegetarian but I admire them because they are able to avoid eating some meat. To think that they could last that long without eating some meat is hardly ever think off. I think that I could never be vegetarian simply because I can’t avoid eating some meat.

Vegetarians will still eat meat of some kind. The term "Vegan" is used for those that choose (often for the wrong reasons) to avoid animal products of all kinds.
Because of the less active demands we have currently, the body does not need all the energy gained from eating lots of meat, so it is "healthy" to adjust to a higher vegetarian diet, but one does not totally eliminate meat/fish/poultry from the diet. Your body will also pretty much "tell" you what foods it wants (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.) if you listen to it properly.
I find the "obesity" situation in the world to be an interesting event, especially when people NOT excessing on fast foods are still "bulking up". There are beliefs that mankind is going through a transitional cycle in its evolution and that fast foods really have nothing to do with it. Not everyone has the genetic metabolism to store fat easily, but in the past it was a necessary trait for survival. Who knows, maybe being "fat" right now is a good thing......
