Hi I am interested in using a recipe database on my PC to help organize my recipes I have out of magazines. A few years ago I used "Now You're Cooking" but on looking on the web I came across a site that evaluates cooking software and that one came in 7th out of 10. The top one " BigOven Delux" was very well received but they commented on the printing limitations, something I like to use when cooking, I make the print bigger and easier to see when busy.
Does anybody have any hands-on advice for a recipe organizer?:) :)

nalla69,

I wish I could, sorry. I used mealmaster years ago, but nothing lately. I have about 2GB of recipes in *.txt format and am playing with Microsft Access to try and add them to a database to no avail. Maybe some of our other friends could help both of us?

Hi
Well I have spent some time on this using this site http://cookbook-recipe-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
I chose BigOven and I think it is great(trial available)--I have no connection with it.
It will suit you because you want the same as me--text recognition and it is easy. Highlight text and hit button---ingredients, method etc. Does have a slightly corny overall approach but just what I needed and prints in large print if required, eyes are not what they used to be!!!!

I don't have that many recipes in my PC, but I would like to recommend Cook'n. You can find it on that list by accesing the link you provided. I've tried it some months ago and - although I haven't tried any other cooking recipes organizers, to compare with - I'm pretty satisfied with what it can do... The cool thing I found out about it is that one can move easily from one step to the next. Most softwares like these are known to have a buggy interface that troubles most unexperienced users, but not Cook'n. If you haven't tried it yet, I think now's the time to do it. You can do a lot of things with this software... My favourite part is moving recipes to different chapters or different cookbooks with the drag and drop feature. :)

I tried Big Oven....not bad...could be better. The address in my signature has an online collection of recipes (though small right now) but you can add your own, create your own profile and store all the recipes you want in your own profile....all for free!

Click on the recipes section

Just a thought.

I've been using MasterCook for years and its pretty much a standard around the internet so recipes can be imported directly in to it without any hassle.

Their print function template is quite good, though a bit of a learning curve, and all my good recipes are printed out on half-size sheets (2 per page) and placed in a half-size 3-ring notebook. I have a hole punch configured for the smaller size. I'm now up to over 6 notebooks on various topics.

I couldn’t recommend anything since I don’t have any recipe on my pc. I think it would be better if you will just buy a book instead of recipe database because it can ruin by viruses. But, if you are really persistent on using a recipe database then I would suggest that to search for it on the search engines using the keyword “recipe database”.

Hi,

I found a website that has helped me (so far) with organizing my recipes and cooking schedule. Check out TabUp (http://www.tabup.com). You can have recipes delivered to your TabUp page (via RSS), schedule your recipes for the week on a calendar and keep a running grocery list (all without leaving your TabUp page). Check it out!

I know a lot of people use the software database Mastercook. It seems to work well for them.

I use Microsoft word. I created my own database and template. I would share the template and instructions with you if you have microsoft word, and would like to do it yourself. Just let me know. Sorry it took so long to get this info to you. I hope you are still here and get the info you need.
