Dear all,
I am spending a lot of time cooking, and I think I am getting pretty good with most techniques, and its awesome.
Its just I need some more inspiration, and so I want to ask Cookingforums which books you guys recommend...
I have a lot of different cooking books, but most books nowadays are so made for everyone, that a lot of time the recipes need to fit on one page, so the techniques are really left out.
If you can tell me a few books which are more than just one page "instant meals" I would be very happy. ( books I own are mostly Gordon ramsays, Jamie oliviers, taste of italy ( few more italian books) Marie Claires books, and a lot of foreign recipe books)
Thanks!
when I'm looking for a recipe I find it on the Internet. I have so many cookbooks. I can't pick one as a favorite. I think when you look at the ingredients in a recipe you will know if it's to your liking or not or what ingredient or ingredients stand out in the recipe. I suggest Internet searches. My mother told me if you buy a cookbook and it has one (keeper) recipe is worth the price of the book. but the Internet is free.

If you are really looking for method and technique rather than just quick recipes, I suggest you get Jacques Pepin's La Technique & La Methode. They were originally published as two separate books, but later were combines into one volume. Most chefs agree that there is no better teacher than Jacques Pepin. I was fortunate enough to work with him and learn my knife techniques from him in the 1980's.
Another good place to go for teaching techniques & sound basics is Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She starts with a 'master recipe' and then shows you how to take it to many different levels.
There are very good reasons why books from these two chefs are still top sellers after 40 or 50 years.

Balance and Harmony by Neil Perry is an excellent and straight forward book on Asian cooking and one of my favorites.
In Balance & Harmony, Neil Perry revels in his love for Asian cooking: the great flavours, the contrasts in tastes and textures, and the way that just about anything can be cooked with a wok and a bamboo steamer. Balance & Harmony is set out in the style of a cooking school by the Rockpool masterchef, progressing from the easiest steamed, stir-fried, braised and deep-fried dishes, to more challenging and intricate plates as you gain confidence and knowledge. In addition to the wonderful individual recipes, there are a series of banquet ideas, ranging from the simplest to the most gloriously memorable.

I use an ebook I bought. Wasn't a too bad price and it has EVERYTHING you could ever want to cook! I downloaded it to my Ipad and just prop it up in the kitchen. Check it out :)
