Anyone tried baking avocados?

I bought a wonderful book called THE AVOCADO COOKBOOK recently, with some wondeful recipes in it. Wow!

I got it from Lulu.com and downloaded it. It is by Roy Bates, Nearly 100 recipes, all about cooking avocados! I have tried some of them, and I am going to try them all,

I have not tried baking avocados before. In fact I have never even tasted an avocado before. What do they taste like?

if you have ever had Guacomole dip, you have had avacado's. They are a fruit, I think they taste kind of like a creamy pistachio nut. Kinda slimey, mild, the pulp is soft. An aquired taste I think, but I love them !!!

Meilong,

Here is one I found from my buddies at the Food Network. Depending on what ingredients you can find in your area I assume that trying different combinations of nuts, cheese and pork products would be just as good. Maybe a sprinkle of fish sauce added or ?? I have never had warm avacados, I think now is the time to try. :)

Baked Avocado Recipe courtesy Irene Khin Wong, Saffron 59

2 large avocados
1/4 cup crumbled Stilton
1/4 cup walnut halves
1/2 pound pancetta, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Cut the avocado in half and scoop out the flesh, leaving the skin intact, and roughly dice the avocado. Place avocado in an ovenproof dish, and add the crumbled blue cheese, walnuts, pancetta, and Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper.

Spoon the mixture back into the avocado shells and bake for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and place in the broiler for 2 minutes right before serving.

To serve, place on a serving tray with sliced baguette or crackers.

Did you know that here in the Philippines, avocados are generally eaten as dessert and not as a vegetable? Try this. Scoop out the avocado using a spoon. Add condensed milk (or you can use evaporated milk sweetened with sugar) and chill. Eat for breakfast or as a dessert.

I only use avacados for guacamole...although I hear they are very easy to prepare.

OMG, I love avocados. I live in Los Angeles, and they are easily a daily ingredient. Next month there is an Avocado festival that features Avocado Ice Cream and tubs of guacamole. It's amazing.
