I have tried sushi three times, the first time being when I was 19. I have also had both the cooked kind and the raw stuff. It was a very new texture, flavour, substance for me. The first time I tried it I wanted to be able to eat it soo badly since I think it is good to be able to eat pretty much any kind of food. However I tried hard and prepared myself mentally, but when it came down to it, I couldn't even swallow it, the taste was just too different for me.
The second time was a much more positive experince, I ate an entire piece of the cooked kind, even though it took at least 2 hours to consume ( I broke it up into the tinyest bits). The third time, was a big accomplishment, I ate three whole pieces of the raw kind of sushi! Yes the totally uncooked kind. I must note though, that I dunked a large portion of it in the chocolate that was left at the bottom of my drink. By the end of the third experience though I concluded that sushi is really not suited to my taste buds, and that I should not force myself to eat it. However I still take pride in that fact that I tried it and ate three pieces of raw fish!
I certianly do not like sushi. I might eat a few pieces if I was given $10,000.
Of all the types of sushi have tried (which is only 3) I like the pure slab of raw fish kind the best (I can't remember all the fancy sushi names).

I like sushi. I find it tastes good, and is really nice on occassion, but I don't know how some people absolutely hate it. I also don't know how some people absolutely love it.. I know people from both sides and I just don't get it :)

I don't like the 'fake' sushi... aka California Rolls.. that's not sushi come on :)

Actually, last week my girlfriend brought me some sushi from a Sushi Restaurant, and while I usually just had sushi from the grocery stores, I did have sushi at two restaurants before. And while restaurant sushi is much better than grocery store sushi, the sushi from the place she went to was absolutely DELICIOUS! I don't know what it was but wow!

It had what looked like fish eggs in it (little red tiny spheres) and there was this unrecognizable slightly crunchy texture that tasted almost like it was slightly deepfried or something.. still have no idea what that was but it was so delicious. The best sushi ever...

I love sushi.

My favorite is barbecued eel that I ate in a sushi bar in Japantown in San Francisco many years ago.

I last ate sushi about a year ago.

Our small town of 13,000 has a Japanese restaurant downtown. The food is delicious.

Yes, I've tried sushi.
I LOVE it.
Favorite kind is eel, any kind of tempura, spicy tuna, and crab
The last time I ate sushi was 3 weeks ago. I eat it at least 1-2 times/month
I had a sushi party a few months ago. It was a lot of fun. We all rolled our own sushi. And I even made some with chicken in it for people who didn't care for the fish.

I love sushi.
I would eat it for $10,000 in a heartbeat!
There are many places to get it, I've had some excellent salmon/cucumber rolls from my shoprite (but this is a rarity... usually this sort of sushi is dry and not "real" sushi) but I have been blessed with having several great and rather resonable places that make sushi, some even offering all you can eat for $22-26!

Some of the best rolls I've had were (cooked) scallops, asparagus, and cucumber (or the vegetable they use that is similar to cucumber that I can't recall the name of-bok choy?) with a white grand marnier sauce. I've also had a tuna roll that was pulverized with mango puree and several added vegetables and avocado. The puree and the crunchy veggies were a delicious combo, and then there was spicy mayo on top.

I've made my own sushi a few times, starting off with some "krab" at walmart (2lbs for $6 so if I screwed it up I wouldn't be bawling!), some avocado, cream cheese, and cucumber.
I find the key is getting the rice right, which I find involved rinsing the rice a few times and then cooking/preparing to the directions on the container.
I've made my own eel sauce which came out fantastic, and I've made my own spicy mayo. The main secret is getting to an Asian food market that sells kewpie mayo. then the rest is sugar and tobasco (or sirichi) to taste.
Recently I got brave and bought some sushi grade salmon. It was excellent. I may venture onto white tuna next. I like the creativity involved in making sushi. I even made peanut butter and jelly rolls, and dessert rolls made from rice krispies and fruit roll ups with various gunny candies inside.
I guess the most important thing is to remember you have raw fish there... I may be uber paranoid, but I have a dedicated sushi fish cutting board, I eat the fish no later than the day after I buy it, and I only buy it from this Asian food market that is hopping busy.

And, the tiny eggs referenced in some of the replies was most likely some sort of roe, which I've also bought at an Asian food market.
I love sushi. I just needed to get into it a little at a time. I started with only cooked and slowly moved into the raw, and then to pieces. I'm still not a fan of eel or octopus and at least for now, I'm cool with that :-) Take your time, try to find an all you can eat... maybe that way you'll be able to experiement and find out what you like/don't like :-)

I've only tried it once.

I'm not sure if it was just the place I got it from, but it was really dry and I felt like I needed to drown it in mayo or something so I could swallow it.

I'm sure I'll try it again one day though!

Same with me. I tried it in a restaurant in New York (http://www.boorah.com/restaurants/c/2126/NY/New-York.html) a few months back. Tasted good. No idea about the kinds and its recipe to cook at home.

Oh my yes, love it! I recently 'discovered' that I enjoy it!
I love nigiri (tuna) and any with tuna
When ever I visit a local Asian restaurant in the town where I work.
I'm going to try to make some California rolls, I want to make nigiri but I need to procure sushi-grade tuna locally, which isn't easy.

I've had Sushi a couple of times and enjoyed it more each time I've had it. The stuff you can but in the supermarkets here isn't brilliant though so I think I'll have to make a trip to London and go to a proper Sushi Bar to experience the really fresh and tasty stuff.

Hello!

Sushi is my favorite food, and it became more interesting once I learned its basics. I cook it at home, which makes it really cheap and a great way to have a nice dinner with friends!

I even posted in my blog the sushi basics and some recipes, which served 2 proposes: a) I learned more about sushi and b) I could share it with everyone else!

sushi tastes great, it is really healthy and it is exotic... :)

Seeing as I am completely repulsed by seafood, I don't enjoy sushi!:p I have even tried the non-seafood ones and I didn't care for them, I couldn't get past the seaweed wrap.

My partner on the other hand can't get enough of it, barbecue eel is his favorite but he will try just about anything.

If we go out to a sushi place, we must go somewhere that serves other things. We have a place here called Sushi Thai, that has the full sushi bar and Thai food, he gets his fill on sushi and I get pad thai, we are both happy!

Can't live without it. My favorites are Tuna and Salmon (don't know the Japanese names off the top of my head), but I'll try just about any variety as long as it's fresh. I also go for Sashimi. IMO, fish is way better raw when done right.
