I have one thats big. 22 x 25. 2' thick.
All I do is move it around from place to place. its not been used. It is not going to fit in my kitchen sink.
I thought well maybe I can hose it off outside lol or use the bath tub.
A friend has wood kitchen counter & to tell you the truth , when I am there all I think about is 'how clean is this?"

Clean and scrub it with boiling water, especially if you have been cutting meat on it !! Then oil it with paraffin oil ( food grade )....Simple :)

If you are not using it, why would you want to clean it? If it is too big to handle and clean easily, I think I would saw it in two and then clean it in the sink, or just take it off my counter.

Found this for ya
Fill the sink with about 1 gallon of hot, soapy water. Dip smaller cutting boards into the water and scrub with a cleaning rag. Dip a cleaning rag into the soapy water and scrub across larger cutting boards that won't fit into the sink.
Rinse the cutting board in the sink or wipe down the cutting board with a clean, wet rag.
Soak a clean rag with white vinegar and wipe down the cutting board thoroughly. The vinegar both deodorizes plus disinfects.
Disinfect even further with hydrogen peroxide. Soak a paper towel or clean rag with 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and wipe over the cutting board. Let the cutting board air-dry.

I would not put soap on any wooden cutting board. If I needed to disinfect a board, I would use a salt paste and let it set overnight, or scrub down with a bleach solution.

Tell me how you create a mild solution of Tea Tree Oil ? I wasn't aware this oil was miscible in water.
Additionally I urge other posters who want to find out everything they ever wanted to know about wooden cutting boards to visit this site....

Hi, Semigourmet!
Nice to have you back!!
I have a wooden cuting board, but I only use it when I bake. For instance, for rolling out dough for biscuits, rolls, pie crust, etc. But not for cutting anything.
I use the plastic cutting board for that. It can go right in the dishwasher when I'm done! There's it gets clean & santised with water much hotter than your hands can stand!!
And BTW, anyone thinking about washing a wooden cutting board in the dishwasher, forget about it. It will eventually warp.

Yeah, sharp knives, especially to ones that you use to prepare your food with, shouldn't be washed in the dishwasher either.
The extremely hot water and detergents ruin them, make them dull, and the wooden handles will discolor as well.

It depends entirely on what you use the board for, I wouldn't be too concerned unless you've been using it to cut meat. Sounds like you don't use it that often so I would just make sure you wash it and treat it from time to time or just before you use it.
