Hi

I love KFC and would love to have a home recipe to satisfy my cravings for it! Does anyone know a good tried and tested recipe?

It doesn't have to be exactly like KFC but tasty enough to stop me from craving theirs!

Thanks

Try copycat recipes on the web and they have a few variations. From memory the chicken needs to be cooked in oil in a "low pressure" pressure cooker which makes it a little difficult for the average cook and you have to adapt to a fryer. Of course the debate on the secret herbs and spices still rages but apparently one of the main flavoring agents is MSG. :)

You can also make your own Buttermilk Fried Chicken recipe.

Just marinate the chicken pieces in buttermilk with your favorites pices and 2 eggs in the fridge overnight, and then fry it the next day.

Very tasty!

I get those KFC cravings once in a while too, Sherm. So every once in a while I just give into them. Maybe three times a year. Get it out of my system.

Let me add to my previous comment that when I start to crave something for more than a day or two I think it is my body's way of telling me I need more of what ever is in that particualr food.

For instance, sometimes I crave bananas. So I think my body must need potassium. Then after a few days of eating a banana or two daily I don't have that urge any more. Same for KFC. I seem to get my craving sated and then I don't need it again for many many months.

Don't know if there is anything to this or not. But for now that's my story and I'm stickin to it!! :p

KFC DOES have that chicken sammie that I want to try. It's two pieces of fried chicken fillets with bacon and Swiss sandwiched between them.

Was out on a try-out basis, but it became so popular that KFC decided to make it a permenant item on the menu!

That's it. Once I've tried it, I think my craving for it will be over. Because as a rule, I don't eat KFC on account it's too wicked salty.

Thanks for the tips, I've been out and bought some buttermilk and some new herbs and spices to add to my evergrowing stocks! I'll let you know how I get on....

I think its right about the body craving stuff that it needs, when I was pregnant I wanted to eat watercress salads constantly, I was low on iron from tests so the iron in the watercress is what I needed, good job I craved something healthy like watercress rather than getting the iron from steak or something! I also ate Ribena ice lollies like they were going out of fashion, what I needed from them i'm not sure, maybe the vit C??

Not sure my body needs anything that comes from a KFC craving....it's just a naughty vice !:)

Same with me Roberta. And I regret it every time. :D

If only they would cut back drastically on the amount of salt they use in their chicken, it wouldn't be so bad.

They should and need to take into consideration health-concious people who are trying to watch their sodium intake.

Forget the salt..What about the saturated fats, especially in the original style ?

How much salt do you reckon is in say original recipe pieces?

I think health conscious people should just stay away from fast food and have it once in a while as a treat, the problem these days is we see fast food as part of our regular diet rather than a one off now and then. Supply and demand, we want it, there are a 101 ways to get it 24/7!

I suppose at least if you make your own you can be in control of what actually does go in it.

Too much!!

Yeah, as long as it's in moderation, there shouldn't be a problem, if you can stand the astronomical amounts of sodium that's in everything from crakers to Chinese food!

And yes, I DO make my own dishes, instead of buying those premade or "ready-to-prepare" dishes that are tainted with so much blasted salt!!

I too love KFC I use this set up for me.

Marinated chicken pieces in buttermilk and these spices
salt
pepper
onion powder
garlic powder
paprika
thyme
sage
oregano
cayenne (just a pinch)

then use the same spices in the flour mixture in the flour mixture I use

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 to 3/4 cup corn meal
if frying I add about 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons baking soda
if not frying and you want a much crispier crust on the chicken in place of the flour and corn meal, use crushed cornflakes also seasoned.
