I got back from turkey last week and I must say the food was dreadfull there.
traditions
lamb
brains
liver
heart
stomach
goat
One of the problems was it was very hard to find a place that served turkish food, it was all burgers and chips catering for chavs.
when I did eat local food, [lamb pepper skewers] I was seriously ill for 4 days and did not leave the bathroom.
later, the travel rep told me that most of the lamb is not actually lamb, they dont know what it is because lamb is to expensive to buy there.
just a word of advice, ever go there, stick to the sandwiches ;)

The Ottoman Empire was responsible for a lot of the Western European food. I have traveled quite a lot in Turkey, if you go to tourist resorts then yes it is hard to find good cuisine, but that's the same in most resorts. There patisserie is better than French or Austrian
