Food Network will be launching a new food channel next month on the 31st of May!!

It will be called The Cooking Channel.

It will offer cooking programs for the younger generation of people and form a somewhat different perspective.

Tyler Florence, Rachael Ray and Bobby Flay are a few of the guests who will be appearing on the channel.

Watch for it next month. Get more info on it from the Food Network. :)

They are bringing in the allstars to promote this new channel. The food network has celebrities that's almost to funny! Thanks for the information Sherm about the new channel.

You're welcome!

I just hope that there are none of those goddamn challenge shows, or the channel doesn't become infested with them, like the Food Network at night!!

The reason why I've stopped watching it at night, except for a few other shows that i think I might like, such as the special, Outrageous Food, that aired last night featuring Aaron McCargo Jr.. I like him.

I am still wondering what the point of this new channel is and how it will truly differ from Food Network.

We'll see what else happens.

Found out that this so-called Cooking Channel is really the Fine Living Network!

They are just merely changing their name due to lagging audience appeal.

Interesting. I will have a look-see. But they have to earn my coming back.

It sounds great to have 100 channels, or 200 channels. But really, how many of them can you watch? I think we are really a bit over saturated with TV channels these days. Of course, I am old enough to remember when we only had 3. Period. Sometimes I think the quality of the programming was far better way back then. Except for Burn Notice of course, and it has nothing to do with cooking. I wouldn't mind doing a bit of cooking with the star of that show. :o

That's just like the Food Network being overly saterated with all those goddamn challenge shows! They gotta go!!

Yeah, it's a lowdown dirty downright shame that Comcast now forces people to get all those channels that we don't or can't find the time to watch just to get FLN!!

But now that I got a job, I'm seriously contemplating getting it back.

Here is a link to an article about this new channel:

http://www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/tv/bball_wives_reunion_arrest_R3XCsxmohGBmlq0cQ83kTJ

The beginning of the article says it best:

"Just as you began to suspect that you didn't have enough food-related programming in your life, the Cooking Channel premieres today.

............

"Finding that there weren't enough hours in the day to fit in all the throw-downs and cake competition shows demanded by its audience, the Food Network has created a more mellow, edgier channel for well-traveled foodies interested in things like food origins and cultures."

The channel is supposed to air reruns of Julia Child and Two Fat Ladies Cook. Now both of thsoe I will watch and enjoy. :)

I remember them both.

I loved watching Two Fat Ladies, mainly because I liked to hear them talk with their deep accents.

Sadly, one of them died (Jennifer) from cancer. She used to smoke on the show just before it went off.

I watched some of that new Cooking Channel a couple days ago. Two programs called "Jammers". Kinda like the poor man's version of Alton Brown with a lot of MacGuyver thrown in. It was entertaining. Made me want to go out and raid someone's garbage so I could build myself a fully funtional outdoor pizza oven.
As I was scanning Direct TVs menu I noticed all the shows were a few years old.

I should have that channel back tomorrow as part of the "bundle package" deal when Comcast comes out and reactives the phone service.

I now have the channel now, and to me, it looks like just a crazed-up rehashing of the Food Network!

Since it IS the FN's sister channel, some of the old cooking shows that were on the Food Network have been moved to there.

I DO miss Emeril Live though, which USED to air on the FN.

But I guess THIS channel is a relief from all those blasted challenge shows at night on the Food Network.

I think that they created this as a more instructional/informational channel, much like what food network was back in its early days. I think that is the track that they are following.

What I find amusing is that I have not yet seen a promo for this station with any mention of food network stars, all promos are new chefs and new shows, but in reality it is more food network than a "new" channel.

I think that I will enjoy it as long as it keeps to this format and doesn't start airing all of the horrible challenges that food network has. I haven't watched much food network at all in the last year, there is nothing on there that interested me.

I hope that the classic shows catches on. If I had one wish it is that they would hire Sara Moulton to do some new shows, I just loved her, but I'll enjoy her reruns for now.

You're right!

I'll watched the Food Network during the day, but not much at night because it totally SUCKS with all those challenge shows at night!

I am happy and a bit upset at the cooking channel. they have some great shows on there but WAY too many old old reruns. Yes, I do enjoy watching some of the older ones but not some of the others.

I like:
Good Deal with Dave Leiberman (spelling)
David Rocco's Dolce Vita
Bills Food
Indian Food Made Easy
Every Day Exotic
Chuck's Day off
Jamie at Home
Tyler's Ultimate and Food 911
Haven't watched Food Jammers yet.

I've seen Jamie at Home, Tyler's Ultimate and Food 911 on the Food Network.

Come to think of it, this might have been done as a relief from all those blasted challenge shows that are all constantly wasting up and monopolizing the Food Network's airwaves at night!

I haven't seen any of the new shows yet. But it is nice to see some of the oldies but goodies again.

Actually, I prefer Burn Notice to any of the cooking shows, FN, or the new Cooking channel.

TV just isn't what it used to be. There are so few good shows on any more. It is B-O-R-I-N-G. I prefer actually cooking, gardening, or reading to watching cooking shows.

I haven't tried watching this show due to busy schedule. But now, I am really dying to watch this. I want to learn more about cooking and I want to gather new recipes from them.

Thanks Sherm!

You're welcome!

But all it is, is a revamping of the former Fine Living Network. They were losing money from what I heard and were about to become extinct.
