I adapted this from a recipe I found on the 'net and QBro and I LOVED it!! A keeper!

It has the flavors of our Polish heritage and they melded so well together!

(Barb (homecook) has probably made this a million times, but this was my first!) :)

Kielbasa, Cabbage and Mac Casserole

6 slices bacon
1/4 cup water
2 T sugar
1 onion, chopped
2 teas minced garlic
1/4 teas crushed red pepper flakes
3 teas caraway seeds
1/4 teas seasoned salt
1 SMALL head of cabbage, cut in small wedges, then sliced
1 pound Polish kielbasa, sliced (I would cube it next time, to spread it out more)
1/2 pound uncooked elbow macaroni

Fry bacon until crisp. Remove bacon from pan, drain, and reserve.

Stir water, sugar, onions, garlic, red pepper flakes, seasoned salt, and caraway seeds into bacon drippings. Add cabbage and stir. Cover and cook over medium heat for 10 - 15 minutes.

Cook macaroni and drain.

Add kielbasa to the pan. Mix in the macaroni. Place all in a 13 x 9 casserole dish. Sprinkle crumbled bacon on top. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

Wow!!! That looks delicious!
I can't believe there's not some kind of cheese in there... I'm picking up some caraway seeds and seasoned salt and making this.

Thanks for the recipe, Lee. Beautiful picture, too. I thought it was a one pot meal from the pic.

Ahhhhh, your after my heart, Lee!!!

Yes, I have had this (not quite a million times) but we always used noodles. LOL I never tried it with the macaroni, sounds like a good alternative. I'll be trying that next time. It's even better the next day.......
Don't you just love these kinds of meals? Yummm

Thanks, guys!

Chow, I considered adding some farmer's cheese (which is sort of like drier ricotta), since we use that in pierogi and Lazy Pierogi, but I didn't want to "gild the lily", as my grandmother would say. LOL! (might be good, though!)

It just looks like you did from the creaminess of the macaroni in the pic and the color.
Far be it from me to suggest gilding your lily ;^)

I'm surprised there's no cheese in that delicious looking dish too. Either way it looks fantastic Lee! :D
