Sausages differ by contents, seasonings, and casing. It's hard to say how it's different without comparing it to a certain other type of sausage.

A bratwurst (pronounced [ˈbraːtvʊɐst] (help·info)) is a sausage usually composed of veal, pork or beef. The name is German, derived from Old High German brätwurst, from brät-, which is finely chopped meat and -wurst, or sausage. Though the brat in bratwurst describes the way the sausages are made, it is often misconstrued to be derived from the German verb "braten", which means to pan fry or roast.[1] Bratwurst are usually grilled and sometimes cooked in broth or beer.

In America, Knackwurst may refer to a short, plump sausage originating from the Holstein region in Germany. They contain ground veal, ground pork, and fresh garlic stuffed into hog casings.[1] The sausages are aged for two to five days, then smoked over oak wood. Knackwurst is often prepared highly seasoned.

Hi SuQx,

I share your questions about sausage. One recommendation I would make is to find your local market and ask there. For starters, they will be more knowledgeable than the grocery store and also their stuff will be much better.
