I also think it is, because when i clicked on the word Bentley which was in Green, some unknown page came up and when I tried to close out of it, it wouldn't go away!!

Had to keep on clicking on the Backspace button to get out!

I'll ask Tyler about this.

The word Bentley in this post was the first I've noticed it.
I have been experiencing another problem with the forum however, I need to click on the back button three times before I return to the previous page. I click, the page "blinks" it says "done" at the bottom, yet I am still on the page I was just viewing.
Must be something glitchy with the forum.

Oh yeah... it's happening for me now, too. Some kind of Infolinks advertisements or something. I remember seeing keywords with the double lines underneath and were a different color (that were active links) on another forum, but that was a while ago. I can't even remember the forum now. It did it within the post and it was a real annoyance to read the post. If your cursor passed over the word while you were scrolling, like here, it brought up a pop up.
I wondered what that clicking was I was hearing on my computers... it's those Infolinks advertisements loading up.
Interesting. It just happened out of the blue. Or green I should say, lol.
You mods didn't get notified of the change?

Whoever owns the forum is using infolinks advertising to make some extra money. It works kind of like Google Adsense except it's contextual advertising. I use it on my websites too.

The owner of the website can choose what color they want the words and if they want the text underlined with one or two lines.

Great. Now explain why it takes me three clicks to return to the previous page...

I'm still surprised no one was informed of this.

I'm sure Tyler is aware of it. I don't begrudge him trying to recover a little of the cost of maintaining the site for everyone. His alternatives are to accept advertising or ask everyone to pay a little money. (Unless of course, he's independently wealthy and is paying for everything just out of the goodness of his heart!)

However, it's less obnoxious than putting ads right in the posts, like they do on Spice Place.

I don't know, one click does it for me.

Hi Everyone,

The vice president of Infolinks contacted me a little while ago and talked me into trying using their ad network. I agreed, but only on a trial basis, so this may not be a permanent change.

I will run them for a few days and see how they perform. If they manage to bring in some decent side revenue for the site, I will keep them as it will help me pay for improvements and new features to the site.

If, however, it does not bring in very much then I will remove them as I do know they are rather intrusive.

I have changed the colour of the in-text ad links from green to black to better coincide with our colour palette, which should help tone them down a bit.

In addition, if I do keep them, I will restrict them to appearing within the actual posts, nowhere else on the site such as in signatures or navigational areas of the site.

Cheers,

Tyler Cruz

Hi Tyler

Do you know of any reason that they would affect clicking the back button? I have to click three times to return to the previous page, this is on three computers, BTW. I haven't tried dumping my cookies yet. It just seems weird that the Infolinks appearance would coincide with the back button not functioning properly.

Yeah, that seems to be the problem with me as well.

Sorry, and nothing against you at all Tyler, but it's kind of annoying when we can't return to a previous page when trying to click on the Back button. Do you think that you might be able to fix that part?

At least I'm not alone!
I hate when something only seems to affect my computers.

I tried visiting the forum in IE and was able to duplicate the back button issue as well. Since Infolinks proved to be too troublesome, I have removed it :-)

Wow, cool.
You da Man, Tyler.
Weird issue though.

Thanks, Tyler!

So sorry though, that it didn't work out too well for you.

But at least, things are back to normal once again.

Dear Tylor and friends...

This is Shay from Infolinks and I am happy to join this discussion...and not just because I am the biggest cooking fan :)

Infolinks displays In Text ads on thousands of websites web-wide. Our In Text ads are considered as the next generation of contextual advertising since they are much less intrusive and based on the readers permission. The ads only show up for your interested readers. If they mouse-over the double underline links, they will see a small bubble containing advertisement related to the text marked. They can choose to either make the bubble disappear by moving the mouse away and go on with their browsing, or to press on the bubble and go to the ad which is relevant to your text. As you know, you can customize the links to get the look and feel of your website so it blends well with your content.

As for the "back button" issue - it can be easily solved so I asked our tech team to cook it for you...

Good day to all,

Shay

Okay, I have re-added the Infolinks ads as the back button bug does appear to have been fixed now. We'll see how it does monetarily - I'm still using it on a trial basis.

Some of the ads are X'd out. is that normal, Tyler?

In a way, putting the cursor on the highlighted works gives a small pop-up, telling you what the ad is.

Beats clicking on the word and not being able to go back to the forum page!

Tyler

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "X'ed out"? Do you mean that the little thumbnail images aren't showing? Because I have noticed that 90% of them aren't showing...

Big Daddy's House

Yes.

You know, when you've seen a pic somewhere on the forum or other forums, but instead, there a white square there with a small red X in a tiny square.

It'll probably fix itself though.

These don't seem obtrusive at all. And they are few and far between, so my mouse doesn't "grab" one as I use the arrow keys to scroll. Nice job, Tyler.

Here ya go, Sherm 841

Ha!!

never knew that there was a Smily that stamps out X's.

Yeah, this one seems less troublesome than the first one.

Thanks, Tyler!
