Hey Tyler,
Is there a way to put a size limit to the pics? These huge pics are a pain trying to read the posts because they allow the sentences to wrap around, causing the need for side to side scrolling. I can only imagine what they are doing to the dialup folks.
Thanks

I hate that as well.

Most of the pics that I post from my Digital camera are like that. I was also wondering if they can be made smaller.

Only when I get them from a website, they are smaller.

That's because website owners typically downsize their pics for quick downloading, otherwise people would get pissed and leave before the page comes up.

Some people leave the cameras set to high resolution (high number of pixels) in case they want to print the pic out. There is typically a setting in your camera to let you choose the size. And some cameras (my old Sony for instance) even have a separate email setting which will automatically give you a smaller file sized pic, along with whatever you have your camera set on.
And then of course you could always take the time to edit the pic on your computer before sending or posting it.

And then again, some websites automatically will downsize the pic or tell you it is too big. So an extra large pic doesn't make it onto the board, messing with that particular thread.

Maybe THAT'S what it is. I'll look to see if my camera has that setting.

Just a tip...I usually DL the pic or pics to the PC and then open them in paint to resize the image. Its worked for me cause I remember having that same problem with my pics. So you guys might want to try this...i personally don't think its your camera :)

I thought about that as well myself, and wondered if I could remedy that problem through there, which seems possible.

Yes, it can be done one of two ways, like I said. So you could reduce the pic in Paint if you don't have a better program. My Paint is a PITA to resize because I can't see the pixel size, only the percentage. Then I need to cross-reference the actual pixel size to get it exactly the size I need. I think some Paints, maybe on Win7, might have that hassle fixed.
If you don't need high resolution pics it's just as easy to choose a smaller size within your camera settings. 640 x 480 pixels is what I use. It still makes a very printable pic and also allows quite a few pics to fit on the memory card. Remember, the larger the file size the less you can store.

I'll definitely look into it later today.

Not now though. Was up all night at a friend's house up the street. Just got home an hour ago. Need to sleep.

Yes - people often shoot photos at resolutions far greater than they need to. For most cases, people should be using the lowest resolution setting on their cameras (640x480) if they plan on using them online (Facebook, e-mail, forums, etc.).

The higher resolutions are really only useful if you plan on having the photo developed, graphically altered, etc.

Unfortunately, my new camera doesn't have that low a setting. The lowest I can get it is 2 mp. I will see if I am missing something in the settings.

I, also, tried to find it on mine, and then I tried to find it in the manual that came with it. No luck yet.

That chicken pic I took was 5MP. I downsized it using my computer.

There IS a way to do that.

I think it is when you double-click on one of the pics for customizing. A friend did it on one of my laptop pc's after he did a recovery on it, but I haven't mastered that yet.

I think I found a way to reduce the extreme bigness in the pics that I post.

The trick is in the zoom adjuster. If I get it just right somewhere in the middle between Zoom-in and Zoom-out, the pics don't appear as big as they normally would.

The paint on my Windows 7 has the pixel option. I open in paint and reduce the photo to the size I need.

For me window's photo gallery is what I view my pics though. If it is the same for you click on open, with microsoft office picture manager if is very easy to re-size and edit pics. click on picture in the tool bar, and click on resize and then select web- small and press ok. Save the changes and then you are set to upload.

I use irfanview... a small program that let you resize/crop/sign your pictures.
I have used this program for years and it is free for downloading.

I can't live with out it and I make sure I store the exe somewhere in case it goes away :))

Cropping your pics also help to reduce the size, so that they're not so big on the page.
