Sausage Breakfast Casserole

Ingredients:

6-8 slices of bread
1lb sausage
1 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar
8 eggs, beaten
2 cups of half & half or regular milk
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp Worcestershire
chopped green pepper if desired

Preparation:

Remove crusts from bread and spread with butter. Place in greased 13x9x12 pan. Cook sausage until brown. Drain well.

Spoon over bread and sprinkle with cheese. Can be frozen at this point if serving at a future date.

Combine eggs, milk, salt, dry mustard, Worcestershire and green peppers. Mix well. Pour over mixture in pan and cover and chill overnight or 24 hours. Remove from refrigerator 15 minutes before baking. Bake uncovered @ 350 deg. for 30-45 minutes.

Serves 8.

This sounds like that mountain man breakfast or similar. The one typically cooked in a dutch oven. It sounds good.

Come to think of it, I think Homecook posted a recipe like this because I remember asking if the bread should be toasted or not...
I've gotta try this for sure. And I can take the sausage out of the casing for this recipe... ;^)

This is a GREAT recipe!

I make mine with slices of deli ham, swiss, and American cheeses. Topped with corn flakes that have been tossed with melted butter, just before putting it in the oven. That topping MAKES it!
