Hi,
For the best part of 2 years I've been having a boiled egg everyday for breakfast (I also have a shredded wheat and tea). Someone told me recently that eggs are high in cholesterol, so I did a cholesterol test and everything appeared normal. I'm still not 100% sure if I should continue with my egg a day so I'm just wondering if anyone here has any advice regarding this?
Thanks !

I just had a talk with my Dr yesterday, after getting some preventative tests done. I'm the kind of person that never watches what I eat. Two times last year I realized I ate a whole pound of bacon in one sitting, wrapped around shrimp, which I just found out are also very high in cholesterol. And drenched in hot sauce and butter. Anyway, the Dr said it is what it is. You are either going to have a problem or you aren't. He said my cholesterol, good cholesterols, triglycerides couldn't be better. I guess I'm fortunate that way, because I would hate to have to watch what I eat.
Unless you get tested or have a family history you can compare to, there's really no way of telling.

Thanks !While it has been shown that most people are either genetically predisposed to things like cholesterol and blood pressure problems, nothing replaces actual testing and monitoring by your family physician or health care provider. While we may have some members here educated in medicine, they do not know your entire history, so they are not the people you should be asking. Make an appointment with your health care provider to discuss this issue.
Keep in mind that your doctor is only going off of published studies and regurgitating that information to you. Today's information is often replaced by new studies and reports that often discredit recommendations made in the past. My doctor told me that if I eat things in moderation and get plenty of fruit, veggies and adequate protein, that I should be just fine. he also said that is no guarantee, just a guideline. After all, that's why he is called a "practitioner," because he's still practicing.;)

Eggs give you a lot of nutrition in a small package. Unless you are someone with a predisposition to high cholesterol an egg per day should be perfectly healthy.
Since you are eating an egg a day, and your numbers are normal, you should be just fine.
Remember though, things can change with age, and a yearly physical is always a good idea to make sure things are still running smooth. Also weight gain can change your cholesterol levels.
I have learned that saturated fat and trans fats seem to have the biggest impact on cholesterol levels.
I'm the kind of person that never watches what I eat. Two times last year I realized I ate a whole pound of bacon in one sitting, ....... .
I live vicariously through you, Chow.

I think Whoopie Pie said it best unless you have a predisposition, I would just enjoy the egg and the benefits it does bring to the table.
Unless you the suffering from high cholesterol eating a egg in a day is a healthy thing. If you are too much worried..just check with you doctor.

Like so many foods once labelled bad for you eggs have now been taken off the food police's list. This often happens with foods as more and new information comes out and research is done. Once eggs were bad for you. Now they are OK if eaten in moderation. Once coffee was bad for you. Now not so much. Same with chocolate. Again, it is an individual thing. And each person has to weight the pros and cons based on his or her own health. I just try to eat a varied diet and all in moderation.
My basic diet is this - I pretty much eat what ever I darn well feel like eating. I just eat less of it and add more fruits and vegetables.

... and increasing chocolate intake is an alternative to increasing fruit and vegetable intake :D

You got that straight, stormbind. I eat religiously from the four major food groups every single day: salt, sugar, fat, and cholesterol. :D :D :D

One boiled egg a day I don't think is bad for health though it is high in cholesterol but should be taken in moderate is good for health it depends upon your health like my father he has gone through heart surgery the doctor suggested him to take egg white which is good for health.

Eating an egg a day is not sufficient for cholesterol. normally eat min. 2 egg in a day.

An egg a day should be absolutely fine. As long as you eat a balanced and nutritional diet and don't eat anything to excess, then I am a firm believer that the body will be fine.

In my opinion, if your tests came back with regular cholesterol levels there is nothing wrong with an egg a day. There is a lot of cholesterol in the yolk of an egg but there is also a lot of nutrients. If you aren't eating a lot of other high cholesterol foods its definitely okay.

An egg a day has a disadvantages result, because an egg white daily consumption is bad it can cause dry skin, red spots, fungal infections and a high cholesterol which is bad for the body.

If you are like me and have high cholesterol, I eat an egg white omelet for breakfast every other day. It still packs the protein and is pretty good. I buy the egg whites in a carton.

Yes I also heard that eggs are high in cholesterol that's why I stopped eating eggs everyday but then a doctor (who guested on a TV show) once mentioned that it is ok to eat eggs everyday but it should only be one egg per day.

the egg is a complete food if the yolk and eggwhites are eaten together, therefore yes, healthy, as long as your cholesterol levels are normal.

An egg a day. I always eat an egg for breakfast and have nothing wrong with my cholesterol. There are several theories on this, one that it's OK,one that it's not good for you. I think everyone is different, so if it works for you then great!

I did read an article a few months ago in a magazine of mine that said that eggs are very good for you but you shouldn't eat more than three a WEEK as they are difficult for your body to digest. Hence why when you eat an egg you tend to feel fuller for longer.
Although of course, as has been previously mentioned, there are always very different theories on this.

For most of us an egg is day is absolutely OK. In fact, eggs have many health benefits for us. New scientific studies disprove the old food police's belief that they were bad for us.
