Troilus, I just saw in another thread that you make Hot Buttered Rum.

Would you please post your recipe here?

And anyone else, please feel free to post yours here as well!

Thanks!

Oh, man! Troilus, I'm so glad you came back and replied!

I've copied and pasted that recipe, and will down-size it to a single serving (or 2), and will try it this weekend!

Thanks!

Lee,

The original Hot Buttered Rum drink was first published by Victor Bergeron ( AKA Trader Vic) in 1947. I have the original book. Here's the recipe (verbatim).

Hot Buttered Rum Batter

1 pound brown sugar
1/4 pound soft butter
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
pinch of salt

Beat butter and sugar together until thoroughly creamed and fluffy; beat in nutmeg, cinnamon. cloves, and salt.

Hot Buttered Rum

1 heaping teaspoon Hot Buttered Rum Batter
1 1/2 ounces light Puerto Rico rum
Boiling Water

Preheat skull mug with boiling water. Put batter into mug. Add rum. Fill mug with hot water. Stir well. Hit with hot poker. Decorate with 8 inch cinnamon stick.

I've made this (without the hot poker step) and it's wonderful. I've done it it quantity and put it in a punch bowl and everyone loved it.

If you want this recipe to come alive, take the time to grind the spices fresh. The difference is amazing. You can use either a M & P or a spice/coffee grinder

I haven't tried mixing or making this kind of drink. As I've seen this recipe, I guess it has a kick of spice that makes this drink suitable for this cold weather right? :D

You southerners just don't understand. Hot buttered rum is one of the reasons to go skiing.
