View Full Version : Can the recipe posts be categorized?
I see a category for baking on the home page, but how about Meats (and then subcategories), Appetizers, Soups and Stews, Desserts (with subcategories) , etc. ?
I apologize if this question has been asked and answered before, but I couldn't find it in this subforum.

Sounds like a good idea to me. All the "recipes" are just jumbled together, alot of hunting to find something.

That DOES sound like a good idea! It would make finding certain recipes much easier.
I'll ask Tyler about it.

Ok, Tyler says that we should make a list to see how we think that we would like the
categories to go. Here are mine;
1. Appetisers
2. Main Courses / Entrees
3. Meat (Beef, pork, poultry & lamb).
3A. Seafood.
4. Soups & Salads
5. Yeast Breads & Quick Breads
6. Cakes & Deserts
7. Pastries
8. Veggies
9. Fruits
10. Sauces & Gravies
11. Micellanious.
What do you think? How would you want the catagories to be posted? Post your thoughts, please.

That seems to pretty much cover it BDH! I can't think of anything else right now........
Good start, BigD!
Here are my suggestions, in addition to yours.
The meat category should be broken out the way you have broken out Baked Goods.
Separate "Salads" from "Soups"
- Make "Soups and Stews" one category
Add:
- Cookies
- Candy
- Beverages
-Breakfast/Brunch
- Special Diet
- Ethnic/International
- Outdoor Cooking (BBQ, Grilling, Dutch Oven, etc.)

Thanks. That defines it somewhat.

There, I've just added most of these to the site. How's that look now?
I know you guys have been wanting this for a long time so hopefully it's all you guys could have hoped for ;)
I didn't add the last few suggestions of yours QSis, because I felt that they would overlap into the other categories (BBQ and meat for example). The best way to do it would be to list a BBQ Ribs recipe under the Beef Recipes category, and just title it as "QSis's Awesome BBQ Ribs"
I also added my own suggestion: "Slow Cooker", as that's mostly what I cook with these days.
Let me know what you guys think.

P.S.: Now you mods can get to work moving all the threads from the parent Recipes forum to all their sub-forums :-) That may take a while! There's no need to leave an expiring redirect by the way, for when you do move them.

I just moved the Beverages forum into it's proper place underneath the Recipes sub-forum... I accidentally missed that yesterday.

You're welcome!
I'm presently in the process of moving the recipes written into their proper categories.
It'll take some time though, so please bear with me for a while. Thanks. :)

I'm about halfway with the transfering of the recipe posts into their proper categories.
Ten more pages left to go.
So when you want to share a recipe, please try to post into the appropriate category. Doing it this way will help make things much easier to find. Thank you.

Oh.
Dag, I forgot to tell you all that I sent a pm to Tyler, asking him to open and post a few more categories so that some of them don't all end up going into the Micellaneous section.

I have added two new Recipe sub-forums: Rice Dishes and Pasta.
I didn't add the other suggestions as I think they are a bit too specific, for now at least. We need to be careful to not add too many categories but try to have just enough so that each recipe will only have one "home".
If we add too many, it can become a big problem when people aren't sure which category to find a BBQ Ribs & Pork recipe, for example (BBQ? Beef? Pork?).

What about pork fried rice? Where would that go? Pork or rice?
lol
It's definitely hard to categorize, as there can be so much overlap.
I appreciate the time you took, Tyler, and to the mods for moving stuff around.

Good question!
Where WOULD that go?
I'd say either Main Courses or Rice, since it IS A RICE DISH. But it's also a main dish as well. Guess it can go under either of the three.
