Tonight, dinner is a box of Zatarain's Red beans and rice.

Here's what I do to "make it my own"...

Will saute onion, garlic, red & yellow peppers, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms in butter and white wine, those will be added to the pot.
Will use chicken stock instead of water.
One pound of kielbasa will get cut into slices, dusted with cajun powder, and
fried, then added to the pot.

Just before serving, each plate will get about 2 Tsp of sour cream stirred in
to add some richness.

Do you have "upgrades" for box foods?

(For my Macaroni and cheese, I use chicken stock, and add dried minced onion and garlic to the water. When I mix it up, I add a dash of cayenne to bring out the cheese!)

This kind of thing seems like what Sandra Lee does on her show on Food Network.
