Not too long ago, celebrity chef / home cook Paula Deen had appeared on The View.

The subject was about butter and cooking for kids. As you might all know, Paula likes to use butter when she cooks & bakes,

Walters had criticsied her on the use of butter and making dishes and baked goods high in fat and calories. Paula, in turn, had said to her that children should only eat such things in moderation.

Walters had insisted that kids should not eat such foods. When the show had ended, Paula wasn't too happy on the outcome, as she felt ridiculed about the way that she cooks. Not sure if she would want to appear on The View anytime too soon!

I think Mrs. Walters might have a point. You wouldn't tell your kids it's ok to smoke cigarettes as long as it's in moderation.

I think Barbara Walters should keep her opinions to herself, and not denigrate her guests. She knows how Paula Dean cooks, and if she disagrees with that, then she should not have had her on the show. The same goes for all the do-gooders who want to impose their values on someone else. This is still a free country...at least for a little while.

Yeah, she probably goes right out after taping an episode of the show and pigs out on
rich buttery foods her damn self! :p

I agree completely. If you don't like it, don't cook it. Personally I love Paula Deen but I do not make her recipes. I try to eat more healthy options so I rarely have tried one of her recipes.

I do understand her type of cuisine. I'm from Texas and we are all about good southern cooking fare and that is what she prepares. Maybe Barbara should have the creator of the X box on the show and berate them for kids sitting in front of the TV for hours and not playing outside and exercising.

:D

I do NOT like Walters' way of thinking.

Ok, so the kids should not eat fattening foods all the time, I agree with it. But what is wrong with them having something enjoyable as long as it's in moderation?

Yes, children WILL get fat if they are allowed to sit in front of the TV a lot and eat unhealthy snacks or other foods. But what is wrong with them enjoying a fattening snack once in a while?

Walters is a dinosaur. She probably can't wait herself, to get her hands on something fattening to eat!

All that anyone has to do is look at Paula's sons, neither is obese and were not as children! Yeah they may not be skinny as rails, but they are not huge either.

Parents raise their children not celebrity chefs, it is their responsibility to feed their children well and teach them good eating habits.

I work in a grocery store, and it amazes me every day to see all of the junk that parents buy for their children, this is not the food industry's fault, it is the parents fault. What used to be treats for me as a child, are now every day foods for many.

Like adults, kids are what they eat also.

Some kids are chubby now, but usually grow out of it.

Like the landlord's son. He was very chubby at 11 years old, but now that he's 18, he looks skinny as a rail. And some kids don't get fat at all.

This needed repeating. I have noticed a huge trend of blaming everyone else for parental shortcomings. When my girlfriend and I shop it is glaringly obvious the difference in our styles on food. She buys little debbie snacks, sugared cereal, frozen pizza. I buy fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and whole wheat.

Her kids went nuts when we first moved in together. They were used to eating spaghetti o's and processed foods. I might mention that my girlfriend doesn't cook. It was a backlash at first but not they eat a plate that has a protein, a vegetable and a starch.

I do however agree that it's not a bad thing to indulge in the occasional fried food, I just keep it to a minimum.
