USA vs Iran - Hypotheticals

So Iran seems to be being a little bit naughty again with nuclear weapons.

Here's a hypothetical question. Bush does the whole Iraqi thing agin but this time with Iran. He declares on a national address that he has issued orders to invade Iran.

What happens? Assume there are no weapons of mass destruction (nuclear or biological) used.

I personally think the US would not just have a hard time, but would actually see severe consquences, even on the homefront.

First off, Iran is no Iraq. Iran is big. Iran has an army.

Secondly, the US army is already spread thin with Afganistan and then Iraq. Their numbers are only a fraction of what they used to be.

Thirdly, assume little to no help from other nations, unlike in Iraq.

Finally, the Muslim/Arab world will unite even more than they have already against the US. Expect help from virtually all arab nations to aid both Iraq and Iran.

It would not be pretty, and I am honestly hoping he doesn't decide to do this. I have a vested interest right now.

I agree with your thoughts pretty much all around but can only comment on one. I think there would be a large number of protests in the U.S. - not as bad as the vietnam era but bad enough.

Iran is in between Iraq and Afghanistan so it would be a classic pincher move. We would attack from both sides and win.

The American people might protest or they might just say "wtf? Aw come on. Enough already." We don't really like Iran to begin with but we feel powerless to prevent the government from doing what it wants. There is a general feeling of apathy in the U.S. We should already be protesting because of gas prices, record breaking profits for the oil companies, the b.s. war, and the worthless president we have and we aren't.

I agree with your statement on general apathy, however I think you may underestimate Iran. Iran would really be absolutely nothing like Iraq or Afganistan, and even if you had all the other Muslim countries not join in on the war and not send aid, attacking Iran alone would put the US at it's limits.
