I am planning a dinner party in the near future and was hoping to try and include some different cultural dishes. Fondue always seems to be a popular choice, and I happen to have a fabulous Swiss cookbook (http://swisscookbook.com) that a friend gave me for Christmas one year, so I figured I would take a stab at it. Unfortunatley, however, I currently do not have a fondue set to use. Any ideas out there as to where I could find a decent one online? Are there any favorite brands or types of equipment that may make my efforts any easier? If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them!

Try Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Kmart, Walmart or Kohl's.

If you're looking for a fondue set - I'd recommend something that you can use for different types of fondue like meat and chocolate so that it's more practical for future use. I have a set similar to this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BFZ3JG?ie=UTF8&tag=hellficollec-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001BFZ3JG) and use it often - it's easy to set up and easy to clean which is something to consider when it comes to melted cheese. I considered getting the eclectric kind but wouldn't have anywhere to plug it in where I'd be serving - the sterno/tealight version can go anywhere. As far as where to get one - I'm big on Amazon because a lot of the time the shipping is free and there's no sales tax depending on what state you ship to.

I have a Hershey fondue pot.

It is heated by a small candle and the pot is a chocolate color in the shape of a giant Hershey kiss!

Back in the 50's and 60's, a lot of fondue pots were sold, many were never used. It is worthwhile to check thrift stores and yard sales. I have 3 copper ones and an electric one. The electric ones work best for meats and vegetables as the temperature is easier to control. Don't like the cord connected to a pot full of hot oil and underfoot, so run the cord down the leaf extension slot and clamp the cord. Use paper tablecloths. A lot of grease is going to get dripped. Fondue is a great party idea, and kids love it.
