Hi all

not sure if this is the right forum for this question but i'm having real problems with colouring my icings. i tried to make a bright red at the weekend (you know that real post box red) and it came out a really dodgy looking pink! now i've tried Wiltons and Sugar Flair pastes and colouring buttering icing and royal icing and neither one went red despite me using the Red Sugar Flair paste and Wiltons Christmas Red. They both stayed pink even though i kept adding the colouring paste. i've also noticed that my greens and blues could do with a bit of help. What am I doing wrong? am I not using enough colouring? too much? what?!!!?

Sometimes the color doesn't match on what we expected.I also had the same experience in which orange turns to yellow, red to pink and so on.I guess you have to follow the amount of coloring indicated on the pack for better result.

I know that Wilton's Christmas red will not get you a real deep red. If you get the color called "red red" or "super red" that should come out better. I do know that you need to use a lot more color than you would expect to, but unless you use a lot, it will come out pink!

The thick pastes are usually your best bet, the very liquid colors will never get you a rich color.
