Howdy,

My name is Dan, I'm a 23 year-old from Wisconsin. I am currently spending a year in Afghanistan all expenses paid. My actual military job is a 92G, which is a Food Service Specialist, but I'm working a desk in personnel services. Damn those KBR contractors!

Back home I am still working on a B.A. in Social Work. During the school year I also work full time hours at my part time Rent A Cop job. Over the last three summers I've ran the Kitchen / Dining Hall Operations for a Boy Scout Resident Camp.

I enjoy the challenge that cooking can provide, I also find it very relaxing.

AHA! So Showgirl is LiketoBake! Am I stupid or whut?

Im PLite. I am a Fry Chef! I fry everything I see. I particularly like frying tater tots, bacon, sausages, eggs & baloney. Mushrooms dont fry. Green beans just collect a coat of oil & dont fry either. So I dont eat those unless my mum bribes me.

Hello All!

I'm pilgrim30.

Just stumbled across this site and signed on this evening.

Was married for many years to a person whom I could not please with my cooking.

He passed - No! Not from my cooking!! LOL From cancer due to smoking.

We raised a family of 6 and half raised a granddaughter.

Then I met and married an amazing man a little over two years ago. He actually thinks I'm a good cook. Boy! Have I ever got him fooled!! :D

I love to cook for my new husband because he really enjoys my food and is not shy about saying so.

Hello Tyler!

Forgot to say in my earlier post:
It is great you live in the Pacific Northwest – does Vancouver Island qualify as the PNW?? I envy you!!

I was born and raised in costal Texas, but parents migrated to Seattle before I turned 14. Therefore, spent most of my adult life in Washington State (Leavenworth and Spokane included). But "retired" to Northern Idaho. Lived there for five years until my late husband passed.

Then moved back to Spokane before getting married. Now I live, of all places, in Arkansas. A very far cry from the Pacific Northwest! Have never ever been homesick until after I moved down here. I miss the mountains and the blue water. Here, the water is muddy. And everything is flat, except for some hills that are called mountains.

I am a photo buff, and when working on my photos taken in the NW, I get ever so homesick 'till I want to cry.

Can't stand the mosquitoes or the humidity here.

But this is now my home that I make with my new husband so am satisfied to remain here regardless of homesickness, humidity and mosquitoes!

If I had an abusive husband, I'd head back to Spokane, but I don't. He is the best thing that has happened to me in a long while and the only thing that keeps me anchored here.

Besides, he likes my cooking!! :D

Well, so much for cheering everyone up!!

Pilgrim, you should go a a visit with your husband to your old home town, if you are home sick. Has he been there before? If not then you would be sharing some of your own life history with him, and he would likely love that.

Questions for Newbies!

Whut is your loved ones favourite dish? Tyler loves Korean food! Whut is yours? I love pizza, chocolate, and Tyler's rice :p
Does he like white rice? I think if it is made right
Does he drink milk? Yes. He drinks 2% and I drink skim milk. So if we are to compromise we get 1% milk.
Is there something you like that he doesnt? He is not a huge fan of sweets or chocolate. I love chocolate and I have a sweet tooth.
Whut is the most time you would spend slaving over a particular dishy? I don't know, maybe 2 days straight...

:) :D  ;)

Skim milk is so yummy:p When you get into the milks with percentages they are too thick and creamy. I like to save creamy things for dessert.

Hi I am a professional Chef with over 18 years in mostly fine-dining/white linen restaurants. I specialize in Greek and Italian cuisines and love taking traditional dishes and recreate them using local and regional ingredients without jeopardizing the original dish.

I am currently the Executive Chef of a some what small country club in semi-rural Iowa. I am a graduate of two different culinary programs and certified through three culinary groups. I hope to return to a larger market once my daughter is older and hope to stay in the fine dining environment. I am active in three other culinary forums and enjoy sharing and learning from fellow pros and from those that love to cook and love to share and exchange what they know.

I think our minds are like parachutes and only work when they are open...

Hope to see you all around!

Hi Everyone,

I'm Jean from PA, USA.

With the food & gas prices going through the roof lately, I thought I'd pull out my old bread machine and cookbooks to start trying my hand at some healthier food on the cheap.

Last night I made a Sweet Potatoe Walnut Bread minus the walnut . I missed the beep.

Don't buy the packaged junk anyway, but the economy has given me a nudge to DIY a lot of things. I actually think it's a blessing in disguise.

Looking forward to getting some tips from you all and I'll let you know the outcome...

Glad to be here

Jean

Hi .my name is Glen.

I'm 60, both happily divorced and happily retired.

I live in South Australia, where winter is just finishing. I've joined this forum to learn and to share anything I have I think may be of interest..

I will gladly answer any questions about my country to the best of my ability.I'm proud of my country.I was born here and I love living here..If I could not live here, I would live in Canada; it's my next favourite country, and I have dual citizenship.

I began learning to cook when I as 12 and still am still learning.

"Traditonal" Aussie food, the kind on which I grew up in the 1950's was ghastly English stodge.

Today though, there are over 200 nationalities living here. So our cuisine has become a stunning fusion of many styles as well as a vast range of traditional food styles,. Because Australia is so huge (over 11,000 miles of coastline) we have a wonderful variety of fresh food,as well as world class wine and cheeses.

I like to cook sweets that deal with orange and mint flavorings. I also like to cook some cinnamon rolls and some sweets. I also like to use molasses in my home baked breads.

One day I went down to the dinner and I bought a cinnamon role and tried to grind it up and find exactly what the people used to make it.
