Last year when season one of Hell’s Kitchen was on air I thought Chef Ramsay was an arrogant prick. I think I watched 2 episodes and decided it wasn’t worth my time. Then right before I left home, for the deployment I am on, I found a tape with almost the entire season on it. I watched the season finale and decided to go back and watch the whole season. I kind of got hooked. I still disagree with some of Ramsay’s practices but it must work for him.
Now I’m looking forward to Season Two which starts on June 12th. Hopefully I can find it on satellite over here, if not I’ll have to have someone from back home send it to me.
Did you watch the series? What did you think of it?

I watched it on the Food Network. I also think Ramsay, even though famous, is going about the wrong way of 'teaching'. I know it's not fair for me to judge him as I'm not a chef or a celebrity chef like him, but what he is doing just doesn't work as well as positive reinforcement (you can be strict still...). Ask any psychologist or teacher.
That said, the network executives obviously chose Ramsey for the ratings.
I'd have liked the series better if they didn't focus on running a restaurant so much (why does waiting on tables have anything to do with being a chef?). It should be solely on cooking, IMHO.
I also can't believe how Ramsay treats his 'guests'. He'll just scream at them and curse them to death.. I'm sorry but his business practices are ludicrous.

Yeah, would almost be fine if he limited it to really annoying customers, but the fact is he doesn't..
Also remember that people were usually complaining about either getting the wrong meal or something cooked incorrectly or else about waiting for 90 minutes for their meal...

No, I cant cook! But on HELLS KITCHEN, most of the contestants can barely cook! Thats why Ramsey screams so much! Whut an idjoot.

I met the iron chefs when Pigsnie and I visited Japan and I begged and begged Pigsnie to take me to their restaurants so I could worship at their feets. Iron Chef Chen wuz so nice; he signed my bottle of sake! Sakai wuz much shyer, but he signed my menu. I love Original IRON CHEF so much more than that silly Americun IRON CHEF. You cant perfume a rotting fish; it still smells bad no matter how much Chanel No. 5 you put on it. :p

the reason they chose Gordon Ramsey is because he is a famous chef from England, He is Good at what he does, He is well known for helping restaurants clean up the business, and the kitchen staff and getting the failing restaurant back on its feet business wise and finacially. Has his own restaurants and at least one show in the UK. Has anyone seen Gordon Ramsey's the F Word?

How can anyone like *HELL'S KITCHUN* when Gordon makes everyone cry? I seriously do not enjoy watching chefs cry. Of course, part of the problem is also that the producers accept incompetent chefs who dont know a pate from a potholder, so Gordon will shriek even louder. :(

I love Hell's kitchen, and Don't feel sorry for those people in the slightest. they have applied and fought to be there with Gordon and his yelling, pressure, and the camera time. he is trying to teach them the pressures of being a head/master chef. If they can make it through his kitchen. I believe you can handle anything. LOL

They applied, yeah, but why did the producers pick the incompetents instead of the better chefs, of which I am sure there were more. So there is absolutely no excuse for Ramsey to whine & scream about the Quality of the Candidates! grrrrrrrrrr.

It is also part of the show and they way it is portrayed. If he wasn't such a flashy loud, and crazy it would be a bit boring. but I hear ya. I just don't seem to have a problem with it.

If he werent so obnoxious, I would recommend KITCHEN NIGHTMARES. But he's awful even if he is helping people.
Anyone waiting for the finale of TOP CHEF? I hope Hung wins! :)
Satine

Yay Top chef finale! Poor Hung did you see the silly public wanted him voted off most:confused: why? they always hate the technically proficient, they hated Marcel (LOVED HIM!) They made fun of Stephen (nothing wrong with being a sommelier!!)
Ramsay is awesome, solid & effective advice on KN just don't know why he has to be so loud, i s'pose some of it is for the cameras but i don't think he can help it... he wasn't from gorbals was he? anyway whenever he calls someone donut or donkey I just laugh, where'd he get those? he is especially brutal in the US version, someone even tried to sue him but the judge threw it out.

I can't stand the man. He is a pompous ass, and yea I know he's a chef, but get over yourself already. Man!
Satine

pompous² at least. worse than the chef ego is his angst over not still being a kind of pro athlete. his insistance that everyone go to the gym & be fit is maybe well intentioned but comes off so rude. & his initial claims not to want to be a celebrity chef, puhleeeease! still respect his great advice & attept at perfection. can't deny the talent/skill.

Well Satine, yes, I do. Our whole food supply chain is in trouble in the west and we are constantly increasing the number of mouths on this planet so we have to keep looking for alternatives.
Having said that, I was raised on a pig farm, and we ate what we couldn't sell. Organ meats, head cheese, etc U get the picture. A lot of it is cultural. We didn't like a lot of things until our Mom made us try them. :)
You don't have to try larvae and scambled duck eggs, just try to keep an open mind. A lot of the places I visit in the world for my job do NOT have "western food".
Satine

i've always been the "i'll try it" girl in the family. although without zimmern & bourdain i would not have ever know some of these non western like foods existed. btw tried head cheese this summer, not bad! & now i think pickled eggs are cool. want to try balut but haven't found any yet. where do u go for your job?
