Watching Oprah's show last Wednesday, Earth Day, I was floored by the video concerning the Great Northern Pacific Garbage Patch. It concerns, among other things our disposal of plastic grocery bags and other plastic items and is a pretty scary sight. I hope everyone gets a chance to see it via my blog Out of a Drama Queen's Mind. I posted an entry regarding the cloth re-usable grocery bags, which I love, and plastic water bottles which I hate.
I use a Brita filter pitcher and never buy bottled water. I got a great looking water bottle from Target and use that wherever I go.
My question here for open discussion is: Do you use the re-usable cloth bags and if not, why not?
Do you still buy and not re-cycle your plastic water bottles? Tell me what you do.

Hi DQ
I use re-usable hessian bags, plastic cool bag (had for 10 yrs) & use Brita filter for water.
A lot of our waste goes to India to landfill sites, where we're told, it's completely disposed of. But I heard on the radio last month: a guy who lives 20 miles from me had a letter from the council ( local Government Office)to say they found his credit card details at the landfill & traced him right back here!

I use a Plastic re-useable bag made from recycled plastic water bottles. they are from www.pattyreeddesigns.com and they are very sturdy and hold a lot of weight. I do not buy the plastic water bottles anymore. I have purchased resuable BPA Free bottles and a couple of stainless bottles from Walmart of all places! 4 dollars each 5 for some. Really nice!
I love my shopping bags. I need a few more, but for now I get compliments on them every time I use them. They are beautiful! I have also purchased rain barrels and intend to get a composter this season or early next. I want to have 5 rain barrels when it's all said and done.

I try to remember my re-usable bags but sometmes forget and am forced to use plastic. Whenever I use the plastic I reuse them as lunch bags and then recycle.

I use the canvas grocery bags and I'm still a rare customer doing it. Most people don't seem to care one way or another or use the excuse "I forget." I also use the Brita water filters and refill a travel bottle.
