I bought one recently at the local store, cost me 40 bucks! Its a d.line one, so hopefully it will stand the test of time.
So my latest saga is making my own pasta, for the last few days there has been pasta and flour all over the kitchen :)
Bought a pasta rack off ebay for 30 bucks, so when that arrives it will be put into use.
So who would have thought for a few eggs and some flour (2 eggs and 250g of flour) you can make pasta for two.
I also found a nice pasta book on ebay and am hoping that I can come up with some more tasty treats.
So here has a pasta machine and loves pasta?
Oh for those that havent tried it, it tastes a little better and has a much better texture.
Cheers Mick

Making homemade pasta is one of those things I've been meaning to try. I make many things from scratch but I have not tackled this one. Thanks for the encouragement by reporting on the superior quality.

I have a pasta making attachment for my KitchenAid stand mixer. I have the ravioli maker too. It's a lot of work, and makes a mess. I didn't like the idea that it took so much time to make pasta so I will stick to buying Barilla, still the best brand around.
You may find it a lot of fun and I hope you do. Homemade pasta is very good, but to me, I don't want to take that much time when I can get great pasta easily.
As for the ravioli maker, I can make ravioli faster by hand.

I have a pasta maker and love it after years of making pasta by hand the pasta maker makes it MUCH easier to roll it out and get it thinner. I make bunches and freeze the extra for later use. Just have to cook the frozen stuff longer even thought you thaw it before cooking, you have to cook longer or it stays chewy.

I have a pasta make I bought at a Thrift Store for $6.99, and a clay baker for $3. What a deal!

I make pasta just for the meal I'll be serving, and have not tried freezing it. I dry pasta on a homemade rack of wooden dowels stretched between two bowls.

If you want a little extra flavor, try adding 1 tsp of basil to your flour and blend it before adding the water. A little oregano also will work, especially if you are doing an Italian meal. Don't be afraid of experimenting...it's only pennies worth of ingredients.
