But for supper I had:

So far today, I had to head into "the city", so I dropped by Arby's and got something different. Their roast beef sandwich, but it had mustard with it instead of the usual sauce, so it was different. "#5" they called it. lol. It was good and surprisingly only 5 something with the pop and curly fries.
And of course that wasn't going to hold me over until dinner tonight, so when I got home I scooped some of that Mexican slaw into a large flour tortilla and had myself a little wrap. That was awesome tasting. Some breaded and fried chicken pieces would have been even better.

Chowhound
12-09-2009, 04:05 PM
It's a round piece of bread about the size of a baseball stuffed with pepperoni. It looks like a round roll with a grease spot (from where the pepperoni leaked as it was baking). If you order them at a pizza shop, they are usually deep fried and I don't think as good. Pizza shop pepperoni balls look more like fried biscuits.
Dare I say, when I get back into the house I'll take a pic of my two....

Geez, the way you were talking about these balls, you'd think they were Pete Schweddy's (http://www.hulu.com/watch/4156/saturday-night-live-nprs-delicious-dish-schweddy-balls)...
Here they are. I layed one on its "side" so you can see there's a flat spot where the pepperoni "juice" tends to pool and soak into the dough. Obviously where it rests on the sheet pan. I never really looked at one before, lol. Everybody around here loves the local store's pepperoni balls because you get pepperoni in every bite. If I had known Mentor was such a culturally deprived area... I'd of brought some when I made my Cherry Festival sausage run :p lol
After cutting one open, you can see why you get pepperoni in every bite, they kind of wrap it around in there. There appears to be a dough thing in the center. Break open a deep fried pepperoni ball and it's really nothing more than a hollowed out biscuit with pepperoni in it, so you tend to get all dough in a couple bites because the pepperoni settles to one side or end.
So here's your challenge Joe, should you choose to accept it!
Challenge, Pepperoni Balls!!!

Thanks Fred!!
Chowhound
12-09-2009, 07:33 PM
It's regular dough, Barb. I took it without the flash because of the white cutting board. The flash was making things a bit too bright, even backing away and then zooming in. It's like regular white dough, no egg or any flavoring besides the dough. Not yeasty either.

Sometimes if I'm thinking ahead, and I usually don't when it comes to what I'm going to eat, I'll soak the fries overnight in the fridge (or at least half a day) in some vinegar water. It gives them a light, crispier taste. I saw it on DD&D's before.
Just something to play with.
Dough Boy
12-09-2009, 10:18 PM
I have made pepperoni bread before, and the bread is not hollowed out. The grease from the meat creates H U G E air pockets. Here is one I made using my Italian bread dough, sausage and cheese...

Big Daddy's House
12-10-2009, 07:35 AM

Very busy day today with work and running around. Came home about 2:30 and started the stock for my Italian wedding soup for Christmas Eve. Went food shopping with DW then to our favorite local eatery for a Lakeshore Burger. 1/2# burger on a toasted & buttered Kaiser roll with sauteed onions, mushrooms, Swiss & American cheeses and finished with smokey bacon. Fresh cut fries with malt vinegar and a raspberry iced tea. Yummo! DW had bacon, eggs & toast for din-din.
Got home at 7:30 and strained the chicken stock. Tossed the bones and put the stock in the garage to cool down. I'll remove the fat tomorrow and make the soup. Cleaned up the kitchen and now enjoying a Lady Bligh & Coke.
DD's plane from Orlando lands in about 15 minutes and DS (aka "Ground Transportation")will get her home around 10 p.m. for 7 days of relaxation. It will be good to have the whole family together for Christmas.

I've just had banana bread so far today. Something is telling me that I won't need to worry about freezing any leftovers (lol).
I've been thinking about dinner tonight, but that depends on if I overdue or eat a late lunch like yesterday, so my plans could change.

Chow, you must be too young to remember the commercials!
BigD, where do you buy it?
Lee
Hmm, I can't get the image from Amazon to appear without a link.

Maypo (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Maypo is a brand of maple-flavored oatmeal. It was developed by the Maltex Corporation in Burlington, Vermont in 1953. It was famous for its television commercials with the catchphrase, "I want my Maypo!" by Marky Maypo in 1956 by the Fletcher, Richards, Calkins & Holden Advertising Agency. In the animated film "The Iron Giant", the Maypo commercial is seen when the Giant's hand is watching T.V.
Mickey Mantle was famous for shilling for Maypo.

Funny commercial. A full one minute long, too!
I never got into oatmeal cerals, or rather my mother didn't buy them. For a while there I ate one that came in a foil, single serving package. You added hot water and sugar to make it edible. It wasn't flavored, that's for sure.
Thanks for the Maypo info, Lee and Barb.

i make my own version of maypo:
rolled oats (quacker), maple syrup, butter, brown sugar, raisins and water to cook.
1/2 & 1/2, a pat of butter and a drizzle of maple syrup to top the cereal.

Chowhound, Maypo is a hot maple-flavored oatmeal which comes in two cuts - Vermont Style & Instant.
I like the Instant one much better because it almost has the consistancy of the instant Quaker Oats. The Vermont Style is too fine and it cooks slightly longer.
QSis, I bought it from Market Basket. It's awfully hard to obtain in some cities & states. Most supermarkets have all but stopped selling it, which I think is a damn shame!!
As kids, we all grew up eating that. We loved to watch the animated commercial where the little boy yells out; "I want my Maypo!!".
I might have some again this morning!

Seven pepperoni balls and a Dr P. (I gave one pepperoni ball to the guy that filled my propane tank on the way home.) I was absolutely starved from not being able to eat or drink all morning. I hit the grocery store for some food stuff and that bag of pepporoni balls never had a chance.
