I love Blood Oranges and live in Denver, CO and cannot find them in any of the supermarkets here. Any suggestions on where to find some good blood oranges for cooking and eating?

I have never heard of blood oranges until now. For anyone else who has not heard of them before
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_orange
The blood orange is a variety of orange (Citrus sinensis) with crimson, blood-colored flesh. The fruit ranges from small- to medium-sized; its skin can be pitted or smooth. Blood oranges owe their distinctive appearance to a pigment called anthocyanin not typically found in citrus, but common in other red fruits and flowers. Not only is the inside of the orange darkly pigmented, but depending on the variety, the outside may feature dark washes of red. The exact reasons for the unusual inside color are unknown. However, it seems light, temperature and variety are important contributors.
I don't know where you can find them.

I don't know about Denver, but where we live blood oranges are in the ordinary supermarket. Thing is, they are only around once in a while. I suspect, because they are not the run-of-the-mill variety, they are a seasonal thing. And, it seems, they never get very many in. If you have a favorite grocer, you could ask and see if they will get them in, and possibly even have them call you when they do.

I have used blood oranges, but am not a real fan. Having lived in Denver many years ago may I suggest calling:
Denver Botanic Gardens | 1005 York Street | Denver, CO 80206
Phone: 720-865-3500 | Fax: 720-865-3713
They may be able to advise you. Or, How about asking one of the cooking schools in Denver to point you in the right direction:

I know they are seasonal, something like November to March, but this may get you started!
