Welcome to the site!

To answer your question - you certainly can if you want to. However, by default this option is turned off. You can turn it on by doing the following:

1. Click on the Profile button at the top of the site.
2. Click on Edit Options
3. Under Default Thread Subscription Mode, choose Instant E-mail Notification
